Watch the first trailer for the Star Wars: Visions anime anthology – The Verge

At an Anime Expo Lite panel, LucasFilm revealed the very first look at Star Wars: Visions, an upcoming anthology of short anime films set in a galaxy far, far away. The sneak peek featured a huge range of visual styles and ideas, with shorts that featured, among many other things, a rock opera, a chibi Boba Fett, droids in straw hats, a twin Star Destroyer, and much more. “We really wanted to give these creators a wide creative birth to explore the Star Wars galaxy,” LucasFilm executive producer James Waugh said during the panel. “We wanted this to be as authentic as possible to the studios and the creators. The idea was, this is their vision, riffing off all of the elements of the Star Wars galaxy that inspired them.” The shorts announced at the event, and the studios working on ...

For acclaimed actor Phylicia Rashad, July 1, 2021 was the official first day on the job as dean of the College of Fine Arts at Howard University. But some hoped it would also be her last. The day before, Rashad had sent out a controversial Tweet in support of her onetime “TV husband,” Bill Cosby, after a court overturned his sexual assault conviction. “FINALLY!!!!” Rashad wrote in the Tweet. “A terrible wrong is being righted — a miscarriage of justice is corrected!” This prompted critics and Howard students to call for her resignation. Here, George Justice, an English professor and author of “How to Be a Dean,” offers insights on the controversy surrounding Rashad. Does Phylicia Rashad have the credentials to be a dean? Chris Pratt’s ‘The Tomorrow War’ Panned as ‘Garbage Pizza’ and ‘Starship Troopers for Dummies’ by Critics – Yahoo Entertainment

Chris Pratt’s latest ode to his inner “action star,” Amazon Prime’s “The Tomorrow War,” is fighting its own battle with critics, who decry it as everything from “the garbage pizza of science-fiction films” to a “mediocre straight white savior fantasy in which the protagonist is…f—ing stupid.” “The Tomorrow War” made its debut on Amazon Prime on Friday and is currently sitting at a lukewarm 53% among critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with the audience review topping off at a more positive 80%. The Globe and Mail’s Barry Hertz calls it “Starship Troopers for dummies,” adding, “If I had a time machine, I’d punt myself to the past just before ‘The Tomorrow War’ went into production, and save everyone the trouble,” while Brian Lowry of CNN admits the picture has a “certain appeal,” “but strands its ...

Having an Outdoor Wedding? Here’s How to Prepare Your Skin. – The New York Times

As more weddings continue to be held outdoors, even as pandemic restrictions are lifted, beauty products will have to work overtime to fight prolonged exposure to heat and other environmental elements. But don’t sweat it — we’ve got you (and your face) covered with several products designed to provide long-lasting wear. Many are sweat, transfer and fade resistant. All About That Base Dr. Marnie Nussbaum, a dermatologist based in Manhattan, recommends using sunscreen with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, because, she said, “these mineral ingredients are more effective, last longer and block the rays as opposed to chemical ingredients that absorb them.” “Look for broad spectrum, water-resistant products with an SPF of 50 that lasts for 80 minutes,” Dr. Nussbaum said. Sunscreen should...

Geraldo Rivera applauds Bill Cosby’s release after being unjustly convicted, suggests Weinstein could be next – Yahoo News

Geraldo Rivera approved of Bill Cosby's release from prison after "grotesquely unfair" proceedings, adding that Harvey Weinstein may be next. Rivera, an attorney, said he wrote a note to himself in 2018 describing Cosby as a "sexual predator who left a trail of human misery and despair" while predicting that "his conviction will be overturned" because the judge "went way over the line in allowing unrelated victim testimony." "What they did to this guy was mob justice," he said on Fox News's America Reports with John Roberts and Sandra Smith. "First of all, the former state [district attorney] promised that they would not bring a criminal case against him if he testified in a civil deposition. That was an express agreement that he had with the former district attorney. That's No. 1. No. 2,...
