The More Teeth You Lose, the Greater Your Dementia Risk, Study Suggests – Gizmodo

However, older adults who get dentures to replace their lost teeth may be better protected against this increased risk. Research continues to show a possible connection between the health of your teeth and gums and other parts of the body, particularly the heart and brain. But a single study or two usually isn’t enough to provide clear proof of a cause-and-effect relationship between two things, which is why scientists regularly conduct meta-analyses of previous research to get a better sense of the body of evid...

Matt Damon Took a Road Trip to Meet Trump Supporters Before Playing One in ‘Stillwater’ – Variety

Matt Damon went deep into red state identity politics to build his character in Tom McCarthy’s Cannes premiere “Stillwater.” To portray Oklahoma oil rig worker Bill Baker — a father who sacrifices everything to help free his daughter from a French prison, after she is convicted of murdering her roommate while studying abroad —— Damon spent an “absolutely critical” time doing research in the state, he said at a Friday press conference for the film. One of the biggest laughs at the movie’s Thursday night premiere came when Damon’s character is asked by a French woman if he voted for Donald Trump. He did not, he responds, but only because a prior felony kept him from voting at all. On Friday, Damon said Baker absolutely would’ve supported Trump. “These guys don’t apologi...

Drake Has Date Night At Empty Dodger Stadium With Johanna Leia – TMZ

Drake took full advantage of the Dodgers being out of town Thursday ... setting up a date on L.A.'s field with Johanna Leia -- and the whole thing looked like it was taken right out of a Drake song. While Justin Turner and the boys were in Miami wrapping up their series with the Marlins ... the rapper took advantage of the opportunity to borrow their arena for a cozy date night -- and it's clear, he balled out for the occasion. A helicopter camera spotted the 34-year-old at a table with Leia near the dugout on the third-base side of the field ... and there was a white table cloth, multiple dishes, flowers and even a personal bartender for t...

EU regulator: mRNA coronavirus vaccines possibly linked to heart swelling – POLITICO Europe

The mRNA vaccines from BioNTech/Pfizer and Moderna are possibly linked to rare cases of heart inflammation, according to analysis of 321 cases post-vaccination released Friday by the European Medicines Agency. Myocarditis and pericarditis are inflammatory conditions of the heart, with symptoms including breathlessness, palpitations and chest pain. The safety committee PRAC analyzed 145 cases of myocarditis and 138 cases of pericarditis after the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine. For Moderna’s jab, PRAC analyzed 19 cases of each condition. By the end of May, around 177 million doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine and 20 million doses of Moderna’s had been given in the European Economic Area. PRAC recommended updating the product information to include this side eff...

Inhaled COVID-19 vaccine successful in animal study – Fox News

One dose of an inhaled COVID-19 vaccine showed success in animal studies, researchers say, possibly opening the door for another option that’s easier to administer than the traditional needle shots. The vaccine, dubbed PIV5, was developed using a platform previously used for influenza vaccines and targets mucosal cells that line the nasal passages and airways.  In a recent study involving mice, researchers from the University of Iowa and University of Georgia found it fully protected the animals from lethal COVID-19 infection and blocked animal-to-animal transmission of the virus in ferrets. Results were published July 2 in the journal Science Advances.  "We have been developing this vaccine platform for more than 20 years, and we began working on new vaccine formulations to combat CO...

Experts differ on need for Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 booster shot – ABC News

The Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine has been pitched with one major advantage over its counterparts since it was authorized for use: It requires just one dose. But with the exponential spread of the highly transmissible delta variant, questions have arisen over whether recipients might need to "top off" their immunity against the now-dominant strain in the U.S. with a second shot. Although the J&J vaccine's efficacy at protecting against symptomatic COVID-19 in clinical trials was less than the two-dose mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, it showed 100% effectiveness against hospitalization and death. Recent research suggests that mRNA vaccines, such as the Pfizer and Moderna, appear to hold up against the delta variant as long as you've been fully vaccinated with two doses...
