‘Mr. Wonderful’ Paul Orndorff has died – Cageside Seats

WWE Hall of Famer, and WrestleMania I main eventer, Paul Orndorff has died at age 71. His son Travis shared the sad news on Instagram earlier today (July 12). Orndorff was an ally of Roddy Piper and a thorn in the side of Hulk Hogan throughout the then-WWF’s 1980s boom period. “Mr. Wonderful”, as he was known, teamed with Hot Rod against Hogan & Mr. T in the match & feud the event that changed the business, Mar. 31, 1985’s WrestleMania in Madison Square Garden, was built around. That is probably many’s indelible memory of Orndorff, but he was a fixture atop the card for Vince McMahon in the ‘80s, often working with Bobby Heenan and against Hogan. He came to WWF from the NWA, and would go on to work for WCW in the ‘90s. There he won the Television and Tag titles (...

The French Dispatch review – Wes Anderson’s ode to print journalism is a periodic delight – The Guardian

Cannes 2021 Amazing visuals, lots of laughs and an A-list cast – including Bill Murray – make Anderson’s tribute to the New Yorker a real treat No one is more spoofed than Wes Anderson: his savant mannerisms, sonorous voiceovers and detailed rectilinear compositions are now so familiar that certain quarters of YouTube have become overrun with Anderson pasticheurs, like Elvis impersonators in Vegas. And with this over-familiarity has come a bit of a backlash – a feeling that Wes Anderson is a tiresome undergraduate taste. His new film, The French Dispatch, long delayed by Covid, has on the strength of the extensively picked-apart trailer, been condemned as more of the same. To which I can only say … sure, yes, more fun, more buoyancy, more elegance, more marvellously eccentric inventi...

New coronavirus variants seen as too contagious for hotel quarantines – Fox News

SYDNEY—In early May, two people quarantined in adjacent hotel rooms in the Australian city of Adelaide opened their doors within seconds of each other to collect meals. Health authorities believe that could have been enough for the virus to spread from a man in one of the hotel rooms to a man in the other via airborne transmission. The man who was believed to be infected at the hotel then traveled to Melbourne, leading to an outbreak and a lockdown of Australia’s second-largest city, health authorities say. Cases like those and the spread of highly infectious new coronavirus strains are prompting officials in some countries to rethink whether hotels are the best place to quarantine returning travelers, even as the U.S. and Europe weigh easing travel restri...

Flu shot protects against some severe COVID-19 effects, study claims – Fox News

New research suggests that patients who received their annual flu vaccine before contracting coronavirus may have some degree of protection against severe effects associated with COVID-19, such as stroke, sepsis and deep vein thrombosis (DVT).  Data collected from patients around the world and presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Disease (ECCMID) suggests that those who had received a flu vaccine prior to COVID-19 were both less likely to visit the emergency department and less likely to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).  Researchers from University of Miami Miller School of Medicine created two groups of 37,377 patients that had certain risk factors for severe COVID-19 effects such as age, obesity, pulmonary disease, smoking and othe...
