Aging process hasn’t slowed down for humans — we’re just not dying younger – Study Finds

ODENSE, Denmark — Aging and death can be uncomfortable topics for many people to talk about, especially as they grow older. While scientists have developed several ways to slow the aging process, a new study finds immortality is (not surprisingly) out of reach. An international team says, no matter how hard we try, every species on Earth has a generally fixed rate of aging that science can’t stop. “Human death is inevitable. No matter how many vitamins we take, how healthy our environment is or how much we exercise, we will eventually age and die,” says Fernando Colchero from the University of Southern Denmark in a release. Aging vs. life expectancy Colchero and his team applied statistics and mathematics to information on populations and life expectancy throughout history. Their fi...

Parents send face masks worn by children at school for lab analysis. Results show dangerous pathogens on masks. – TheBlaze

Exactly what gets collected on your face mask after hours of use? Many medical experts have claimed there are no health drawbacks to wearing face masks for long periods of time, as long as you regularly clean them or use a new covering each time you mask up. But Florida parents, who are concerned about children wearing face masks at school, discovered recently that face masks actually catch a host of bacteria, many of which are "dangerous pathogens." What are the details? The Gainesville parents sent six recently worn face masks to the University of Florida for laboratory testing. They discovered that face masks collect numerous bacteria that cause, in many cases, serious illnesses. The parents wanted the face masks tested "because they were concerned about the potential of cont...

Protesters attempt to throw monkey wrench into Foo Fighters show for vaccinated concertgoers – The A.V. Club

It’s times like these, you learn to be worried about your fanbase again.Photo: Kevin Winter (Getty Images) After performing at the recent Vax Life vaccine-distribution fundraiser, Foo Fighters played a show at California’s Canyon Club last night that required attendees to present proof that they’d been vaccinated. This second example of the band aligning itself with the evil forces of public health was too much for many of its fans (and paranoid opportunists), leading to an anti-vaxxer protest being staged outside the venue that, with characteristically lucid analysis, described the concert’s entry requirements as “segregation.” Photos from last night show people picketing with signs carrying messages like, “Foo Fighters Fight To Bring Segregation Back,” “Modern Segregation,” a pictur...

Paris Jackson says coming out to very religious family was tough – Fox News

Paris Jackson opened up about her coming out experience while on the red couch with "Red Table Talk" co-host and good friend Willow Smith. The 23-year-old daughter of the late Michael Jackson revealed she began to live as her authentic self at 14 years old but talking to her family was difficult. After Michael died in 2009 at 50 years old, Paris' grandmother, Katherine Jackson, became guardian to her and her two brothers, Prince and Blanket (known now as Bigi).  Katherine is a devout Jehovah's Witness and Paris said the family refers to holiday gatherings as "family reunions" as part of the religion.  PARIS JACKSON SAYS SHE HAS 'SEVERE PARANOIA' FROM PAPARAZZI "My family is very religious and homosexuality is just very taboo and they don’t like to talk about it," Paris explained. "I...

A winter respiratory virus is spreading fast across the South, mainly infecting infants and toddlers – Insider

The CDC says to test for RSV if a patient with a respiratory illness tests negative for COVID-19. There's been an uptick in RSV cases across the Southern states.  Toddlers and older infants are susceptible. Symptoms include sneezing and wheezing.  Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Cases of a respiratory virus are rising across the Southern US, and it's not COVID-19. RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) typically circulates in the fall and winter months, mainly affecting children. But rates plummeted in 2020 — likely because of COVID-19 mitigation strategies, such as social distancing, according to an advisory warning fro...

Connecticut confirms 2 Powassan virus infections: What to know about tick-borne illness – Fox News

Health officials in Connecticut announced the state’s first two cases of Powassan virus detected in 2021. The cases, which stem from an infected tick bite, involved patients between 50-79 years of age who fell ill during the third week of April and required hospitalization.  The patients, one from Fairfield County and one from New Haven County, were treated for central nervous system disease and have since been discharged and are recovering. The state reported just two cases last year, and 10 cases total spanning 2016-2020, two of which were fatal.  "The identification of two Connecticut residents with Powassan virus associated illness emphasizes the need to take actions to prevent tick bites while ticks are most active, from now through the late fall," Deidre S. Gifford, MD., MPH, the...

RHOC stars Kelly Dodd, Braunwyn and Elizabeth address their exits – Page Six

Kelly Dodd, Braunwyn Windham-Burke and Elizabeth Lyn Vargas spoke out after news broke that they will not be returning to “The Real Housewives of Orange County” for Season 16. Dodd — who has been part of the show since 2016 but sparked fan outrage in recent times after a myriad of controversial moves — told her Twitter followers that her five years on the series have been “amazing.” “The next five years will be even better,” she tweeted. “I am so grateful for all the love and support and so excited about the future.” Bravo fans had been calling for Dodd’s departure following her much-maligned comments about the COVID-19 pandemic, including a quip that it was “God’s way of thinning the herd” — for which she later apologized. She also drew the ire of Bravo...
