Whats up with Meghan Markle and Prince Harrys $25M Spotify deal? – Page Six

Back in December, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry signed the dotted line on a multimillion-dollar deal with Spotify. Six months later, many are craving the content they’ve yet to deliver. Through their Archewell Audio imprint, the couple signed a reported $25M deal with the platform to produce podcasts and other programming “that uplifts and entertains audiences around the world.” Thus far, however, they’ve produced a three-minute trailer and their 34-minute Christmas Special, which premiered shortly after news of the deal went public in December. The couple are also currently on parental leave after the birth of their daughter Lilibet two weeks ago, leading observers to believe they won’t be providing fresh content anytime soon. “We’re being told...

Let The Mood Swing Begin: ‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’, A Comedy, Is Reaching For The Top – Deadline

It’s thrilling to watch Lionsgate make a run at the box office top spot with The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, a grown-up comedy. Not a kiddie fantasy, like Peter Rabbit 2 or Cruella. Not a Covid-era placeholder, like The War With Grandpa, or a streaming event, like Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. But a rough, raucous, R-rated action comedy, not unlike Bad Boys For Life, which had three weekends atop the box office in January of last year before theaters closed and everyone stopped counting. Breathe. Laugh. It almost feels like summer. Through August, at least a dozen adult-leaning comedies are set for release in a recovery that has been initially dominated by horror and family fantasy. Maybe it’s too much to hope that two or three of them will raise momentum enough to smash through...

Masks on, masks off – San Francisco Chronicle

In the past few days, people all over the Bay Area — at least those vaccinated against COVID-19 — faced an ostensibly simple choice as they approached the sliding doors of grocery stores: Do they finally shed their masks, as allowed under last Tuesday’s statewide reopening? Or do they keep their mouths and noses covered, still smiling with their eyes? Turns out, it was a real pickle: a personal health decision involving not only statistics and beliefs but also infinite emotional variables — trauma and comfort, guilt and confusion, familial relationships, self-image, and solidarity with still-masked workers. To get a snapshot of the Bay Area as it emerges from the worst of the pandemic, we sent reporters and photographers to five grocery stores arou...

Bill Maher Tells Lin-Manuel Miranda Stand Up to Bullies Over “In the Heights” – TMZ

Play video content Real Time with Bill Maher/HBO Bill Maher has some advice for Lin-Manuel Miranda ... stop apologizing to the bullies who take joy in making people crawl like a dog in shame for every move they make. Miranda is taking heat for his movie, "In the Heights," a movie about the Washington Heights area of New York City. He got dragged because the cast did not have Afro-Latinx representation. Fact is ... the cast has Latinx performers, a Black lead, but, as Bill says, "the committee" is outraged the skin tone of the cast is somehow off. Miranda capitulated, saying, "I'm truly sorry. I'm learning from the feedbac...

Overdose Deaths Rose During The War On Drugs, But Efforts To Reduce Them Face Backlash – NPR

The same mRNA technology used in COVID-19 vaccines could help treat cancer – USA TODAY

Bobby Fentress learned about messenger RNA months before the rest of the world. About a year before Fentress got his double shots of COVID-19 vaccine made with mRNA, the painting contractor was infused with a personalized version to fight his cancer. Fentress, 68, was an early participant in a clinical trial intended to see whether a vaccine made with the same technology used to prevent COVID-19 could boost the immune system enough to search out and destroy lingering cancer cells. Companies like Moderna and Pfizer's partner BioNTech, whose names are familiar from COVID-19 vaccines, are using mRNA to spur cancer patients' bodies to make vaccines that will – hopefully – prevent recurrences and treatments designed to fight off advanced tumors. If they prove effective, which won't be known fo...
