The Suicide Squad loads up on new members in the latest trailer – The A.V. Club

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in The Suicide SquadScreenshot: YouTube The Suicide Squad’s big bad is Starro. We think. Whatever it is, it’s part of something called “Project Starfish,” and as John Cena’s Peacemaker points out, starfish is also a slang term for “butthole.” With that one line, Cena makes a pretty decent case for his upcoming HBO Max spinoff. Jai Courtney introduces the newest trailer for the James Gunn-directed sorta-kinda-sequel to the other Suicide Squad movie (which was sorta-kinda bad), in which he reprises his role as Captain Boomerang alongside Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag, and Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller. Gunn packed the rest of the ensemble with a new crew of unlikely heroes, including Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, who gets a bit more screen...

A strange galaxy 72 million light-years away seems to be missing its dark matter – Yahoo News

Scientists have confirmed the discovery of a strange galaxy 72 million light-years from Earth that appears to be missing its dark matter. Why it matters: It's long been thought that dark matter — the invisible stuff that makes up much of matter in the universe — is a key ingredient for galaxies, but the discovery complicates that picture. Stay on top of the latest market trends and economic insights with Axios Markets. Subscribe for free What they found: Researchers using the Hubble Space Telescope first spotted the dark matter deficient galaxy, named NGC 1052-DF2, in 2018, but a new study in The Astrophysical Journal Letters confirmed the observation. The scientists took a precise measurement of the distance to the galaxy — which is about the width of the Milky Way with 1/200th the num...

Damon Dash Cant Sell Jay-Z Album as NFT, Roc-A-Fella Gets Legal Win – TMZ

Damon Dash is taking the L -- at least for now -- in his attempt to auction off Jay-Z's "Reasonable Doubt" album as an NFT ... but he's not likely to give up just yet. A source close to the case tells us the court ruled in favor of Roc-A-Fella Tuesday by ruling Damon's prohibited from selling the NFT of Jay's debut studio album, and any planned auctions to do so must be halted. Of course, the ruling is only temporary, but we're told the federal judge said Jay and Roc-A-Fella's arguments were "deemed credible and correct." That being said, more filings are almost certain to come in the future from Dash's side. ...

Sarah Paulson Says Filming Roanoke Was Her Personal American Horror Story – Vulture

Sarah Paulson in AHS: Roanoke. Photo: FX Ryan Murphy, you heard nothing. Whether you’re a pencil-pusher, barista, or Emmy Award–winning actress, sometimes you gotta complain about your boss. And for Sarah Paulson, that outlet just happened to be The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. The actress, who has starred in eight of the nine seasons of the American Horror Story anthology series, is a longtime Ryan Murphy acolyte, having also starred in Nip/Tuck, Ratched, and The People v. O.J. Simpson. But she says that filming the sixth season of American Horror Story, titled Roanoke, left her “underwhelmed.” “I just don’t care abou...

Britney Spears Quietly Pushed for Years to End Her Conservatorship – The New York Times

Ms. Spears’s first tour under the conservatorship, The Circus Starring Britney Spears, was designed to be a dry one, with cast and crew forbidden from drinking alcohol — or even energy drinks — around Ms. Spears, according to three people who worked on it. During this period, a former nanny and housekeeper for Ms. Spears claimed Mr. Spears engaged in “verbal abuse, tirades, inappropriate behavior and alcoholic relapses,” according to a legal letter sent in 2010 that threatened a lawsuit. In 2014, Mr. Ingham told the court that Ms. Spears believed her father was drinking, according to a transcript of the closed hearing. Lawyers representing the conservatorship responded that Mr. Spears had voluntarily submitted to regularly scheduled alcohol tests and never failed. Mr. Spears’s lawyer said...

Drinking 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day reduces risk of liver cancer, study suggests – USA TODAY

Drinking three to four cups of coffee a day may reduce your risk of liver cancer and other alcohol-related liver diseases, according to a new study.  Researchers looked at the coffee habits of more than 494,000 people in the UK Biobank, a biomedical database, and monitored their liver health over 11 years. Participants ranged from 40 to 69 years old, with 384,818 saying they were avid coffee drinkers, and 109,767 saying they were not. People who drank ground caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee saw the most benefits, while some reduction in risks was also found in instant coffee drinkers. Coffee drinkers were 21% less likely to develop chronic liver disease, 20% less likely to develop chronic or fatty liver disease, and 49% less likely to die of chronic liver disease than non-coffee drinke...

Tree Pollen Facilitates COVID-19 Virus Spread – Carries SARS-CoV-2 Particles Farther – SciTechDaily

A realistic computational model predicts an important correlation between airborne pollen and coronavirus transmission. Credit: Talib Dbouk Computer model recreates a willow tree and nearby crowd to provide new perspective on social distancing measures. Most models explaining how viruses are transmitted focus on viral particles escaping one person to infect a nearby person. A study on the role of microscopic particles in how viruses are transmitted suggests pollen is nothing to sneeze at. In Physics of Fluids, by AIP Publishing, Talib Dbouk and Dimitris Drikakis investigate how pollen facilitates the spread of an RNA virus like the COVID-19 virus. The study draws on cutting-edge computational approaches for analyzing fluid dynamics to mimic the pollen movement from a willow tree...

A hospital algorithm designed to predict a deadly condition misses most cases – The Verge

The biggest electronic health record company in the United States, Epic Systems, claims it can solve a major problem for hospitals: identifying signs of sepsis, an often deadly complication from infections that can lead to organ failure. It’s a leading cause of death in hospitals. But the algorithm doesn’t work as well as advertised, according to a new study published in JAMA Internal Medicine on Monday. Epic says its alert system can correctly differentiate patients who do and don’t have sepsis 76 percent of the time. The new study found it was only right 63 percent of the time. An Epic spokesperson disputed the findings in a statement to Stat News, saying that other research showed the algorithm was accurate. Sepsis is hard to spot early, but starting treatment as soon as p...

Jeopardy! viewers upset over misogynistic, outdated clue about a medical condition – Fox News

"Jeopardy!" viewers are upset with the show after it included a medical clue that many argue is incorrect and even offensive.  The clue had to do with a condition known as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), a manageable condition that many in the U.S. and around the world suffer from. However, because so many people are familiar with POTS, many were quick to notice something didn't hold water on Monday's episode.  Guest host Savannah Guthrie read a clue from the Plain-Named Maladies category that read: "Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome is also known as Grinch Syndrome because this organ is too small." The correct answer to the prompt, according to "Jeopardy!," was "What is the heart."  ALEX TREBEK EARNS POSTHUMOUS DAYTIME EMMY NOMINATION FOR LAST SEASON HOSTIN...

Kate Middleton dons £1,795 Chloe blazer and £90 Veja trainers on a visit to Natural History Museum – Daily Mail

The Duchess of Cambridge cut a relaxed figure as she arrived for a visit to the Natural History Museum in London today.  Casual Kate, 39, who studied art history at university and has been patron of the attraction since 2013, dressed down in pair of blue cropped jeans, a Ralph Lauren white vest top and £1,795 salmon-coloured blazer by CHLOÉ, which features gathered waist, notched lapels and oversized cargo pockets. Typically stylish, the mother-of-three completed her paired-back look with her favourite £90 Veja trainers and accessorised with a gold necklace by Daniella Draper and dainty gold hoop earrings.  The natural beauty, who wore her soft brunette locks in a bouncy blow dry, opted for just a light dusting of pink blusher and pink lip tint, while Princess Diana's famous sapphire and ...
