With Good On Paper, Netflix tries to subvert its own rom-com brand – The A.V. Club

Ryan Hansen and Iliza Shlesinger in Good On PaperPhoto: Netflix Halfway through Good On Paper, someone describes a behavioral quirk of cuttlefish. Less attractive males will sometimes pretend to be females in order to trick their alpha rivals into leaving them alone, thus giving them a chance to mate. These crafty cuttlefish essentially hide their cutthroat intentions behind a cuddlier exterior, which is a pretty good metaphor for what the movie itself is trying to do, too. Good On Paper’s glossy poster and cheerful first 30 minutes would seem to put it fully in the camp of sunny Netflix rom-coms like Set It Up and Always Be My Maybe. Befitting the classic romantic template, endearingly messy stand-up comedian Andrea Singer (Iliza Shlesinger) shares an airport meet-cute with handsome i...

CDC director says benefits of COVID-19 vaccination ‘far outweigh’ risks of rare heart issues – Fox News

Ahead of an anticipated CDC advisory panel meeting Wednesday relating to heart inflammation in a small fraction of vaccinated teens and young adults, the head of the agency, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, suspects the data will reveal the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks of rare side effects and poor outcomes from COVID-19 disease.  "I think what we will see in this analysis for ACIP [Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices] tomorrow is the risk of this quite rare and generally mild disease in the context of the benefits of what vaccination can do with regard to COVID-19, preventing severe disease, preventing myocarditis itself, because that is a manifestation of COVID-19 and then of course, preventing death which has also occurred with COVID-19," Walensky told Fox News in a...

The Fast and Furious Feud Reignites, Just in Time for F9 – /FILM

It wouldn’t be a modern Fast and Furious press tour without the scent of feud permeating the air. Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, who have repeatedly and publicly clashed while making these high-octane action movies, are seemingly at it again, with Diesel reigniting the feud by claiming his behavior was actually just a manipulation tactic all along, implemented in order to coax out the performance he wanted from Johnson. (And no, he does not seem to be joking.) In a new Men’s Health profile, it appears that Diesel was asked about the behind-the-scenes rifts between him and Dwayne Johnson – and like Dominic Toretto, Diesel saw a metaphorical window and hit the NOS button to fly right through it in order to take credit for Jo...

People Think This ‘Karen’ Horror Movie Trailer Is A Crappy Rip-Off Of ‘Get Out’ – HuffPost

Get out of here, “Karen.” Many people on Twitter were a combination of confused, amused and offended on Tuesday by the recently released trailer for the upcoming horror/thriller “Karen,” produced by BET and others.  The 100% not-fake film stars “Orange Is the New Black” actor Taryn Manning as the titular Karen (whose full name is listed as “Karen White” on Wikipedia) and is about a “racist, entitled white woman in the South [who] terrorizes her new Black neighbors,” according to IMDb. Cory Hardrict (“American Sniper”) and Jasmine Burke (“Saints & Sinners”) co-star in the movie as a “community activist and his wife” who move to an Atlanta suburb, according to Deadline. “Last year during the global pandemic and civil unrest, I — like many of us — felt anger, despair and ho...

Photo: Frederick M. And... I must take a break from our normal coverage to talk about investigative reporting organization Project Veritas, a group of proud, MAGA patriots who I have coincidentally been attempting to email for the last several hours. Project Veritas works with whistleblowers all across the country to expose liberal liars, catfish random tech workers, heroically mess with media organizations, pose with guns in the snow, and occasionally plot to have a girl get a national security adviser loaded in the hopes he’d ramble directly ...

The Only Person Not Killed Or Hospitalized In This COVID Outbreak Was Vaccinated – HuffPost

Two people are dead after a recent COVID-19 outbreak in the IT department of a county government building in Manatee County, Florida ― leaving only one person, who was vaccinated, unscathed. Of the six known exposures that occurred around the same time, at least four people have reportedly been hospitalized and two have died. One of those people died last week in the hospital, while the other one died at home, Dr. Scott Hopes, a county administrator and epidemiologist, told CNN’s Erin Burnett. “That’s a 40% case fatality rate,” Hopes told Bay News 9. “That’s a high fatality rate.” In all, five of the six people got sick ― and none of them were vaccinated, according to Hopes. “This particular outbreak demonstrates the effectiveness, I believe, with the vaccine,” he said. “All of th...
