A tough nut to crack: States race to vaccinate young adults against Covid-19 – CNN

The Vermont health commissioner says he's proud of the Green Mountain state ranks first in the US for Covid-19 vaccinations, but with the variant threat, Levine wants even more people protected. To do that, he's going to have to figure out how to reach the one demographic that's holding out, not just on him, but on public health leaders throughout the country -- Gen Z. "They're a tough nut to crack," Levine said. President Joe Biden's administration acknowledged Tuesday that it would fall just short of its goal of getting 70% of adults in the US at least partially vaccinated by July 4. Wide swaths of the South have been slow to vaccinate. Three Southern and one Western state still have fewer than half of their adult population protected with one dose. But across the country, the one demo...

Doctors link woman’s butt fillers to sepsis diagnosis 14 months after procedure – Fox News

Doctors in Ireland will present a case next month involving a 29-year-old woman who was treated for sepsis that was linked to dermal filler injections in her buttocks that she received 14 months prior. The woman endured a nearly three-week-long hospital stay and then required six weeks of antibiotics to clear the infection, the case report stated.  Her doctors said the woman, whose case will be presented at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) held online from July 9-12, had no prior medical history, and had developed nausea and an abscess at the site of injection that was surrounded by 15-centimeteres of cellulitis. Subsequent blood tests revealed high levels of white blood cells and C-reactive protein, which indicates inflammation.  Doctor...

Georgia NAACP Does Not Accept IKEAs Apology – TMZ

IKEA has more work to do if it wants forgiveness for a misguided Juneteenth celebration ... because one of Georgia's leading Black voices ain't buying what the company's selling in the apology aisle. Georgia State NAACP President James Woodall tells TMZ ... the Swedish-based big-box retailer's statement from earlier this week -- when they explained their Atlanta store was wrong for a Juneteenth-themed menu -- is pretty much lip-service without further action. Woodall says he thinks the whole debacle speaks to a tone-deaf culture at the company -- adding its seemingly harmless gesture actually helps perpetuate attacks agai...

Kevin Mazur | Getty Images As the U.S. pushes ahead with its reopening, easing mask mandates and lifting public health restrictions, much of the rest of the world is seeing an alarming surge in the number of Covid-19 infections and deaths. The stark contrast underscores how unevenly the coronavirus pandemic has spread, now hitting low-income nations harder as they struggle with access to vaccines, the rapid spread of new variants and heavily burdened health-care systems. It also shows why, even with nations such as the U.S., China and the U.K. recording relatively low Covid infections and fatalities thanks to a mass vaccination drive, the global hea...

Roughly 178 million Americans ages 12 and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.Meanwhile, in California, at least 70% of Californians have received at least one dose of the vaccine. However, some people like 25-year-old Ryan Carlson are not one of them."My body's already essentially used to the virus. Wang was smitten. Hooping was a great way to spice up her usual workouts, far more entertaining than, say, jogging on a treadmill. And it worked: She’s seen benefits from months of frequently using her 3.6-pound hoop, usually for about 15 to 30 minutes at a time. “It’s fun and different,” said Wang, 25, a content creator who lives in Philadelphia. “I feel like it definitely strengthened my abs, and my core section is just stronger in general.”
