The photo shows the Oscar-nominated actress going makeup-free with her blond hair cropped short. Look closely and you'll also see one of her beloved French bulldogs making a cameo appearance, prompting actor Leslie Jordan to quip, "Even the dog knows you got IT." Scientists hope mRNA vaccine technology could be used to cure cancer and HIV – Salon

One of the unexpected ripple effects of the global pandemic is how it catalyzed medical breakthroughs. Most prominently, the same technology used in SARS-CoV-2 vaccines has the potential to improve treatments for diseases like cancer and HIV. Earlier this June, President Biden's medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci noted that the extraordinary success of the messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) COVID-19 vaccines had given new hope to HIV vaccinologists. In fact, researchers across multiple disciplines have renewed enthusiasm based on the techniques advanced during the pandemic. Such a vaccine would be an astonishing achievement in vaccinating against a retrovirus, HIV, that has eluded scientists for decades. Although COVID-19 vaccines are the first mRNA vaccines approved for human use, RNA-base...

“Sex/Life” and the exhausting, male entitlement of the “nice guy” trope – Salon

There's something about men who identify themselves and are identified by others as "nice guys" — as if that in itself is a defining personality — that's always set off my fight or flight instinct. I wasn't sure why until one day, the discourse around "incels," incel culture, and all the men on the internet who believe they're entitled to women's bodies as payment for being "nice guys," made it click.  The onscreen trope and societal archetype of the "nice guy" is so frustrating because of the common plot points and social expectations that go hand-in-hand with this particular character. In Netflix's latest comedy-drama "Sex/Life," which follows the lives of justifiably dissatisfied housewife Billie (Sarah Shahi) and her perfect, "nice guy" husband Cooper (Mike Vogel), Cooper is the quint...

Britney Spears ex says she wants a baby girl, but is being forced to work: I will testify – Fox News

All Britney Spears wants is to be the mom of a little girl – a dream that’s been blocked because she’s imprisoned in a "corrupt and evil" conservatorship, a former boyfriend said after hearing her impassioned testimony on Wednesday. The man, who did not want to be identified because he fears retribution from the Spears family, told The Post he was most angered when he heard Britney’s lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham III, tell the court that the singer had never asked to end the conservatorship. "She asked him four or five times a week to end the conservatorship and they would always give her some sort of BS," the former boyfriend said. "Ingham used the word ‘formally.’ What does that even mean when someone calls you four times a week [asking], ‘How do I end this?’ … I hope she sues the s–t out...

Dr. Dorry Segev, doctor at Johns Hopkins Medical CenterThe world quickly got less safe for immunosuppressed people. Segev is studying the effectiveness of a third dose, hoping "there's something we will ultimately be able to do for transplant patients."  He hopes to soon launch a formal interventional trial, providing a third shot in a clinical setting, where he can ensure safety and track participants' response. A handful of patients already have started getting extra shots – simply showing up at vaccination centers and not admitting that they've already been vaccinated. It would be far safer, Segev said, for them to get that third dose through a clinical trial. He is now looking for volunteers at transplantvaccine.org. "It's really important for this to be out there so people know ...
