Some Washingtonians experiencing issues verifying COVID-19 vaccine records – KING5.com

Websites to confirm that vaccine records are in the state database for the lottery drawings show "no matches" for some. SEATTLE — Some vaccinated Washingtonians who are trying to confirm their COVID-19 vaccine information is in the state's system, are running into issues verifying that it's there ahead of the lottery drawings. Several people reported "no match" prompts on websites where they were told to check their records, leading some to worry if their information is available for the lottery drawing.  The first drawing for vaccinated Washingtonians is on June 8.  The Washington State lottery will use a random number generator system to conduct two drawings...

Sinead OConnor says shes retiring from making music and touring – The A.V. Club

Sinead O’Connor in 2012Photo: Jason Kempin (Getty Images) As reported by Billboard, Sinead O’Connor announced on her Twitter page this weekend that she’s going to retire from “touring and from working in the record business,” explaining that she has “gotten older” and that “a wise warrior knows when he or she should retreat.” She says her upcoming album No Veteran Dies Alone, apparently scheduled for 2022, will be her last release and that there will be no more touring or promotional work. She also confirmed that this means previously scheduled dates—previously set for 2020 but then bumped to this year and next year—will not be happening. Taylor Swift’s ‘Evermore’ Returns to No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart – Billboard

Evermore was last No. 1 five months ago, on the Jan. 16-dated chart. It’s the first album to wait that long between weeks at No. 1 since last November, when Luke Combs’ What You See Is What You Get returned to No. 1 after nearly a year. Evermore was released in December 2020 and spent its first two weeks at No. 1, on the charts dated Dec. 26, 2020 and Jan. 2, 2021. Evermore’s 74-1 move is the biggest positional jump to No. 1 since the Jan. 19, 2008, chart, when Radiohead’s In Rainbows flew 156-1 after street date violation sales pushed it onto the chart a week early. It’s worth noting that since In Rainbows hit No. 1, three albums have re-entered the chart at No. 1: Chris Stapleton’s Traveller (Nov. 21, 2015), Prince’s The Very Best of Prince (May 7, 2016) and Bon Jovi’s This House Is No...

California county cuts death toll after finding fatalities clearly not caused by COVID-19 – New York Post

The coronavirus death toll in a California county has been cut by 25 percent — after officials found that some fatalities were not a “direct result” of the virus. Alameda County on Friday issued a corrected death toll that puts the total number of fatalities at 1,223, significantly down from its previous count of 1,634. “Alameda County previously included any person who died while infected with the virus in the total COVID-19 deaths for the County,” health officials said in a statement. “Aligning with the State’s definition will require Alameda County to report as COVID-19 deaths only those people who died as a direct result of COVID-19, with COVID-19 as a contributing cause of death, or in whom death caused by COVID-19 could not be ruled out.” Heal...

Did the pandemic drive some strains of the flu extinct? – Hot Air

When was the last time you heard someone say, ‘good job, novel coronavirus. Well done!’ Well, that may not be exactly accurate, but a recent report from the medical community suggests that some strains of influenza typically found in the United States may be “extinct” at this point. With essentially no cases detected for more than a year, it’s possible that the Yamagata lineage influenza B virus and influenza A H3N2 strain may simply be gone. Before we begin popping the champagne corks, that doesn’t mean that the flu has been wiped out entirely. There are several other prevalent strains. But it might make the development and deployment of next season’s flu vaccines a bit more simple, which would be good news. But what’s the reason for the vanishing act? Doctors believe it could have happe...
