A New Non-Hormonal Contraceptive Gel Taps Into “Wellness Culture” Anxiety Over Hormonal Birth Control – Jezebel

Photo: Rich Pedroncelli (AP) A new birth control product called Phexxi is a non-hormonal contraceptive gel that hopes to appeal to the growing contingent of cis women looking for contraceptive options that don’t involve hormones. The ideal audience for Phexxi is “the women who are using condoms, relying on the pullout method and hoping for the best, or the women using a natural family-planning method,” said Erin Turner, a brand manager at Evofem—the company that produces Phexxi. Although the New York Times description of the Evofem offices sounds like a girlboss version of hell (a hot pink Joan of Arc and a cup with the phrase “Tears of My Enemies” are involved), Phexxi as a product certainly seems to have its benefits. The product works by altering the pH of the vagina to make it mor...

Aquaman 2s Full Title Was Just Revealed By James Wan – Gizmodo

My man! And woman! Coming back for Aquaman 2, aka, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.Photo: Warner Bros. Director James Wan is set to go back underwater, deep into the heart of the ocean, and have fun with his buddy Arthur Curry. The filmmaker took to his Instagram Thursday to reveal that the title of Aquaman 2 is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Warner Bros. then confirmed this on Twitter and to io9. Wan has been working on the film for awhile, and his post (which you can see below) makes it seem like production is getting closer and closer. Not much is known about the plot, beyond what we can glean from where the first film left off. Jason Momoa will return as Aquaman himself, Arthur Curry, who is now the rightful King of Atlantis after his defeat of his brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) in the ...

Angelina Reveals Chris Moved Out After Massive Fight, Caught At Hotel With Other Women – TooFab

"He said that he literally slept on one bed with his guy friend and the two girls slept on the other bed," says Angelina -- who also put a tracker on Chris' car! Angelina Pivarnick finally revealed just how bad things got between her and husband Chris Larangeira less than a year after tying the knot on Thursday's new episode of "Jersey Shore: Family Vacation." Over the holidays, there were rumblings online that something was going on between them, after she removed his last name from her social media bio and he made a post saying he wanted to get his "dirty little hamster" tribute tattoo to her removed. After Jenni "JWoww" Farley received a call from Angelina -- who, she said, was "completely going off the rails" -- Jen called up Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and asked him ...

FDA advisers debate standards on a coronavirus vaccine for young children – The Washington Post

“I very strongly believe that we need a vaccine for adolescents and children, but I want to be sure that the risk of the vaccine is lower than the risk of hospitalization” from covid-19, said H. Cody Meissner, an infectious-diseases physician at Tufts Medical Center, noting that vaccines can carry risks and young children have a very low risk of being hospitalized. “As we generate herd immunity, this disease is disappearing, between the vaccine and natural immunity.”

Coronavirus in Oregon: 370 new cases, 10 deaths – OregonLive

Oregon health officials announced 370 new coronavirus cases Thursday and 10 newly reported deaths. Gov. Kate Brown is planning to hold a press conference Friday at 11 a.m. to talk about the state of the pandemic and the vaccine drive in Oregon, where fewer than 100,000 Oregonians need to begin the vaccination process for Brown to lift pandemic restrictions. But demand for vaccines has been waning despite an oversupply of doses, including the impending wastage of 120,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses. That’s how many doses of the vaccine will soon expire and, at current vaccination rates, will likely remain unused before then. Oregon is now on pace to at least partially vaccinate 70% of the population June 28. That date fell backward Thursday because the Centers for Disease Contr...

Japanese Breakfast did a Simlish cover for The Sims 4 because nonsense never gets old – The Verge

Have you even made it as an artist if you’re not singing in a made up language for a Sims game? There’s a proud tradition of popular musicians like Carly Rae Jepsen or Janelle Monáe re-recording songs in Simlish, the in-game language of The Sims, and now, celebrated alternative artist Japanese Breakfast (Michelle Zauner) is joining their ranks with a cover of her single “Be Sweet” for The Sims 4 Cottage Living. Zauner’s track is summer-y and eminently danceable, and it feels just the same underneath a trailer hawking more features for The Sims 4, even with the chorus transformed to “Ya wana baleesh da voo ya wana baleeeeeeeeesh”. It’s also delightfully weird in the way all covers in “Simlish” are — I just love hearing famous musicians sing nonsense! Check out the song in English (wi...

Disney and Starz are in a slap fight over the launch of Star+ – The Verge

Disney is set to launch its standalone Star+ streaming service in Latin America in August, but Starz has filed complaints in Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina alleging Disney is infringing on its brand identity and that the soon-to-launch service will only confuse consumers. In an English language translation of the complaints seen by The Verge and previously reported by The Wrap, Starz argues that Disney’s “Star Plus” service — which will host content from Disney, FX, 20th Century Studios and National Geographic, as well as Star originals — sounds too phonetically similar to its own StarzPlay offering also available in the regions where it filed its complaints. Starz, a premium cable offering and streaming app, has been operating under the name since the mid-1990s and now has a pres...

Highly contagious Delta variant is now in Ohio, but experts say COVID-19 vaccines are still effective – cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The more-contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus has been linked to a small number of infections in Ohio, but data has shown COVID-19 vaccines are still effective against it, Ohio’s chief medical director said Thursday. The Delta variant, also known as B.1.617.2, was classified by the World Health Organization as a “variant of concern” after it caused a surge of coronavirus infections in India. The variant has now been found in more than 60 countries, and accounts for approximately 6% of new infections in the U.S., health officials during a White House news briefing earlier this week. In Ohio, the variant currently accounts for less than 1% of cases, said Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, the medical director of the Ohio Department of Health. But that percentage could increas...
