States ranked by percentage of population fully vaccinated: June 14 – Beckers Hospital Review

Vermont has the highest percentage of its population fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to the CDC's COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration data tracker. The CDC's data tracker compiles data from healthcare facilities and public health authorities. It updates daily to report the total number of people in each state who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The numbers reported by the CDC may vary from the numbers published on individual states' public health websites, as there may be reporting lags between the states and the CDC.  As of 6 a.m. EDT June 13, a total of 143,921,222 Americans had been fully vaccinated, or 43.4 percent of the country's population, according to the CDC's data. Below are the states and Washington, D.C., ranked by the percentage...

Delta coronavirus variant doubles risk of hospitalization: Scottish study – POLITICO Europe

The Delta coronavirus variant, first identified in India, carries about double the risk of hospitalization compared with the Alpha variant, first identified in the U.K., according to research from Scotland released today. While vaccination is providing roughly 70 percent protection from hospitalization, it’s vital people receive their second dose, since protection shortly after the first dose is limited, the authors stressed. The Delta variant has become dominant in Scotland since mid-May, and now accounts for around 75 percent of all positive cases, said Chris Robertson, professor of public health epidemiology at the University of Strathclyde, during a briefing. And more younger people are among those hospitalized. The latest data came ahead of the U.K. Prim...

Delta COVID-19 variant probably going to become dominant strain in US, Gottlieb says – Fox News

The former head of the FDA said that while the Delta variant currently accounts for about 10% of coronavirus infections in the U.S., it’s doubling at a rate of every two weeks meaning "it’s probably going to become the dominant strain."  However, Dr. Scott Gottlieb, who was appearing on CBS’s "Face the Nation," said, that doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a sharp rise in infections over the coming weeks.  "Right now in the U.S., it’s about 10% of infections doubling every two weeks, so it’s probably going to become the dominant strain here in the U.S.," he said. "That doesn’t mean we’re going to see a sharp uptick in infections but it does mean that this is going to take over and I think the risk is really to the fall that this could spike a new epidemic heading into the fall."  ...
