Kurt Cobain's golden locks are worth more than gold ... a few strands of his hair just sold for five figures at a rock and roll auction. The winning bid for the late Nirvana frontman's hair came in at a cool $14,145 ... and that's just for 6 strands!!! As you can see, Kurt's blonde hair is preserved under plastic about the size of a trading card, and the auction house, Iconic Auctions, says the longest strand checks in at about 2.5 inches. These few slivers of music history come f...

Pfizer, Moderna vaccines effective against Indian variants: study – Raw Story

The Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccines should remain highly effective against two coronavirus variants first identified in India, according to new research carried out by US scientists. The lab-based study was carried out by the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and NYU Langone Center and is considered preliminary because it has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal. "What we found is that the vaccine's antibodies are a little bit weaker against the variants, but not enough that we think it would have much of an effect on the protective ability of the vaccines," senior author Nathaniel "Ned" Landau told AFP on Monday. The researchers first took blood from people who were vaccinated with either of the two shots, which are predominant in the United States and have been given to mor...

Premature boys age faster than those with normal birth weight, study suggests – KSL.com

EDMONTON, Alberta (CTV Network) — Boys born weighing less than a kilogram (2 lb. 3.27 oz.) are 4.6 years older biologically later in life than men of the same age who were born at a normal birth weight, according to a recent study by McMaster University researchers. The study, published in the journal Pediatrics on Monday, suggests that accelerated aging may be influenced by physiological stress put on the baby in utero and, later, in the hospital neonatal intensive care unit after they are born. Researchers at McMaster University have been following a group of "extremely low birth weight" (ELBW) babies and their normal weight counterparts since 1977 as part of the observational study. Using an epigenetic clock – a biochemical test used to measure age – researchers looked at the genes of ...

New vaccine could protect against all coronaviruses, prevent future pandemics – WRAL.com

By Heather Leah, WRAL multiplatform producer Durham, N.C. — Duke researchers have created a vaccine with the potential to protect against all forms of coronavirus that move from animals to humans, now and in the future. On Monday morning, Duke experts held a briefing to discuss the vaccine, which they believe could prevent future pandemics. The vaccine works by attacking a genetic sequence common to all forms of coronavirus that enables them to bind to human cells. The new vaccine has been 100% effective in non-human tests. Last week Dr. Anthony Fauci called the new research ‘potentially exciting’ and an important proof of concept. On Monday, Duke immunologists discussed their research and its implications during a...

Morris Chestnut Leaving The Resident — Barrett Cain in Season 5 – TVLine

Dr. Barrett Cain will be scrubbing out of The Resident — or at least scrubbing in a lot less. Morris Chestnut, who has played the polarizing neurosurgeon since Season 3 of the Fox drama, will not return as a series regular for its potential fifth season. Instead, the actor has been tapped to star opposite Chicago Med‘s Yaya DaCosta in Fox’s upcoming family drama Our Kind of People. According to our sister site Deadline, Chestnut has fulfilled his contractual obligation to The Resident, but he’ll continue to recur on the medical drama if it’s renewed for Season 5. (A formal renewal is likely imminent; keep tabs on our 2021 Renewal Scorecard for the latest.) It’s not clear if Chestnut’s status change will be foreshadowed in The Resident‘s Season 4 finale, airing Tuesday at...

The Inspiration Behind Spirals Big Reveal Explained by Darren Lynn Bousman – Gizmodo

Partners on the case in Spiral.Photo: Brooke Palmer/Lionsgate If you’ve seen Darren Lynn Bousman’s new Saw movie, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, you might have walked away thinking the film’s surprise ending came as a reaction to some very serious real-world issues that have rightfully been getting more attention lately. But as Bousman revealed to io9 in a recent interview, that’s not the case. Spiral was originally supposed to come out in May of last year and, in the year since Bousman didn’t change anything. Unfortunately, nothing has changed in society either, which makes the film’s ending even more impactful now than it would have been last year. In the final act of the film, it’s revealed that the new villain is actually William (Max Minghella), the rookie detective and partner ...

Michigan’s push for permanent COVID-19 rules sparks battle with business leaders – MLive.com

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has laid a clear path for Michigan to eliminate its COVID-19 health order and associated restrictions: Get 70% of the population 16 or older to have at least one vaccine shot. But simultaneously, the state is working through a process to make permanent its workplace COVID-19 rules, enforced through the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The current temporary MIOSHA workplace rules expire Oct. 14 and cannot be extended again, per state law. Republicans and business leaders are unhappy with the prospect of permanent rules. “Voice your opposition to Whitmer’s plan to make heavy-handed COVID rules permanent,” the Michigan Republican Party wrote on Twitter. “Say NO to out-of-control, big-government intrusion into the lives and livelihoods of Mic...
