Fans react to The Smile’s Glastonbury debut: “Thom Yorke unleashing his inner demented punk” – NME

The Smile, the new band comprised of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood and Sons Of Kemet’s Tom Skinner, gave their debut live performance tonight (May 22). The new group played as part of Glastonbury’s Live At Worthy Farm livestream event, which was filmed at various spots across the iconic festival site. The Smile’s involvement was only announced hours before the livestream began, while the set offered fans the first chance to hear music by the new project, which Yorke dubbed “a collaboration with Nigel Godrich”. Yorke said little during the performance but did offer an explanation of the band’s name, which was inspired by a Ted Hughes poem. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are called The Smile,” he said at one point. “Not The Smile as in ‘aaah!’, more the smile of the guy who...

Explained | What is INSACOG? What are its findings on SARS-CoV-2 variants? – The Hindu

The story so far: In early March, members of the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Consortia (INSACOG), an advisory group to the Central government, warned of a new and contagious form of the novel coronavirus. Last week, Shahid Jameel, eminent virologist and head of INSACOG, resigned from his post unexpectedly. Though he did not cite the reasons for his exit, Dr. Jameel has been a critic of aspects of the government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly on data sharing, the emergence of new variants and their role in the second wave of infections. What is INSACOG? INSACOG is a consortia of 10 labs across the country tasked with scanning COVID-19 samples from swathes of patients and flagging the presence of variants that were known to have spiked transmission internationally. It has...

The Wuhan lab leak theory looks more credible then ever – New York Post

Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee just released a report citing “significant circumstantial evidence” that COVID-19 originated in a lab in Wuhan, China, and that Washington “may have funded or collaborated” in research leading to the outbreak — suspicions that in recent weeks have become pretty mainstream. So two points: 1) Why didn’t Democrats sign on? 2) How foolish Facebook now looks for blocking The Post’s February 2020 column that first raised the Wuhan-lab-leak possibility. The turn began when 18 top world scientists challenged the World Health Organization’s superficial investigation that called the lab-leak scenario “extremely unlikely.” They called for “a proper investigation,” noting that zero evidence supports the theory that the viru...

Dua Lipa blasts group that condemned her for Mideast stance – Yahoo News

NEW YORK (AP) — Singer Dua Lipa is blasting an organization that paid for a full-page ad in The New York Times that called her antisemitic for her support of Palestinians, saying it used her name “shamelessly” to “advance their ugly campaign with falsehoods and blatant misrepresentations.” In the rambling ad which appeared in Saturday's newspaper in the main section, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, the head of the World Values Network, named Lipa, and the models Bella and Gigi Hadid as three “mega-influencers” who have “accused Israel of ethnic cleansing” and “vilified the Jewish State.” Lipa took to Twitter on Saturday afternoon to “reject the false and appalling allegations” and said the World Values Network twisted what she stands for. “I stand in solidarity with all oppressed people and reject...

Heart Problems in a Few Younger Vaccine Recipients Are Under Investigation – The New York Times

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is looking into reports that a very small number of teenagers and young adults vaccinated against the coronavirus may have experienced heart problems, according to the agency’s vaccine safety group. The group’s statement was sparse in details, saying only that there were “relatively few” cases and that they may be entirely unrelated to vaccination. The condition, called myocarditis, is an inflammation of the heart muscle, and can occur following certain infections. The C.D.C.’s review of the reports is in the early stages, and the agency has yet to determine whether there is any evidence that the vaccines caused the heart condition. It has posted some guidance on its website for doctors and clinicians to be alert to unusual heart symptoms am...

Will ‘bully’ Chrissy Teigen recover from cyberbullying scandal? – Fox News

Following reports of cyberbullying, Cravings mogul Chrissy Teigen faced heavy criticism.  The 35-year-old cookbook author was recently called out by Courtney Stodden for years of unwarranted social media bullying. Since then others, including Farrah Abraham and Dina Lohan, Lindsay Lohan’s mom, have followed suit.  Then, Teigen was dealt a huge blow after reports circulated that retail giant Bloomingdale's had reportedly pulled out of a deal it had in place with the model. Macy’s, which shares a parent company with Bloomingdale’s, also said it’s "not actively selling Cravings by Chrissy Teigen on our site." Though, it's unclear if they will bring back her products in the future. According to The Post, the "raw and vulnerable" TV personality is now holed up in her Los Angeles home. "I d...
