An 8th US state just reached a critical Covid-19 vaccination milestone – CNN

Rhode Island is now the eighth state to have administered at least one Covid-19 shot to 70% of its adult population, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The state joins Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Vermont, who have also vaccinated at least 70% of their adult population. And nearly 49% of the total US population has received at least one shot and nearly 39% of the population is fully vaccinated, that data shows. Bu t the demand for a shot is down -- and experts worry the slowing vaccinations may mean some communities don't reach the widespread protection levels that officials hope for and continue to face outbreaks. "I think we'll be dealing with Covid-19 for quite a long time unfortunately," emergency r...

How feasible is it for businesses to require proof of vaccination? Experts are split – CNN

More states are easing coronavirus restrictions as per the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance, meaning vaccinated people are now permitted to go maskless in many settings. Because loosening those rules would otherwise largely hinge on the honor system, though, some businesses and organizations have announced that they'll require proof of vaccination for entry -- either because they want to ensure a safer environment or because their state or local government mandates it. It's an interim solution that allows vaccinated people to regain a sense of normalcy, while establishments ramp up operations after an economically devastating year. But requiring proof of vaccination also raises challenges around logistics and enforcement, as well as concerns about forg...

Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson kicked things off from the monologue stage at Studio 8H, with Thompson noting that it was actually a “fun year for me, but I’ve discovered people don’t love hearing that so I’m just going to say, ‘Yeah it was crazy.'” Things were then turned over to Heidi Gardner, Bowen Yang and Ego Nwodim, who reflected on going from “weird shows at home to terrifying shows in person.” ...

The poor, the rich: In a sick India, all are on their own – Yahoo News

NEW DELHI (AP) — For the family of the retired diplomat, the terror struck as they tried desperately to get him past the entrance doors of a private hospital. For the New Delhi family, it came when they had to create a hospital room in their ground-floor apartment. For the son of an illiterate woman who raised her three children by scavenging human hair, it came as his mother waited days for an ICU bed, insisting she’d be fine. Three families in a nation of 1.3 billion. Seven cases of COVID-19 in a country facing an unparalleled surge, with more than 300,000 people testing positive every day. When the pandemic exploded here in early April, each of these families found themselves struggling to keep relatives alive as the medical system neared collapse and the government was left unprepared...

Martin Bashir came forward on Saturday to respond to an independent inquiry, which found that his infamous 1995 interview with Princess Diana was secured through deceitful tactics. In an interview with the Sunday Times, the disgraced journalist said he is “deeply sorry” for the bombshell interview’s lingering effects on the royal family (particularly on Diana’s sons, Princes William and Harry), that he “loved” the late Princess and that he remained close with her, even after the Panorama segment aired. At the same time, he rejected the findings of the inquiry, spearheaded by former Supreme Court judge Lord Dyson. “I never wanted to harm Diana in any way and I don’t believe we did,” Bashir told the Times. “Everything we did in terms of the interview was as she wanted, from when ...
