How Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Sour’ Became a Canvas for Millennial Nostalgia – The Ringer

Every so often, maybe once a month, social media’s left-leaning, media-adjacent voices will agree on something—be it a film, news item, or particularly striking Central Park duck—and the Twitter Take Factory will churn harmoniously. Bridgerton makes us horny, the chorus sings. Lady Gaga is reborn in A Star Is Born, and born again in memes and GIFs several years later! Bowen Yang is the true star of Saturday Night Live! Put Phoebe Bridgers on every magazine cover! Olivia Rodrigo released her hit song “Driver’s License” earlier this year, earning weeks’ worth of Twitter hype. The song immediately rose to no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and broke Spotify’s record twice for the most daily streams ever of a non-holiday song. It even inspired an SNL sketch where a group of pool-playing men...

Matthew Perry says he had major anxiety while filming Friends — and nobody else knew – CNN

The 51-year-old actor -- who played witty, sarcastic Chandler Bing in the hit '90s sitcom -- opened up about his anxiety while chatting with former co-stars Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox during the reunion special, which aired on HBO Max on Thursday. According to Perry, his insecurity about his comedic skill meant his anxiety spiked if the audience didn't respond positively to his jokes. "To me, I felt like I was going to die if they didn't laugh," he said of his experience on the NBC show, which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. "And it's not healthy, for sure." Perry was 24 when he landed the role of Chandler and consistently delivered comedy gold with his epic one-liners -- but things were not all rosy behind the scenes. "I wo...

Unrepentant Bill Cosby Denied Parole For Refusing Therapy For Violent Sexual Predators – HuffPost

Comedian Bill Cosby’s petition for parole from his 3-to 10-year prison sentence for sexual assault has been denied because he’s refusing required therapy for violent sexual predators. “We knew he was going to be rejected,” Cosby’s spokesperson Andrew Wyatt told Reuters. “He called me and told me that if he didn’t take the course, he would be denied. He has maintained his innocence from the beginning.”  Wyatt said Cosby is “still hopeful” about winning his appeals, even though he continues to refuse the mandatory therapy. Cosby, now 83, was sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison in 2018 after he was convicted of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004 at his suburban Philadelphia mansion. Constand, a basketball coach at Temple University at the time, considered th...

Hot baths are just as good for lowering your blood pressure as moderate exercise on a spin bike, study finds – Insider

Regular hot baths could provide many of the same benefits as exercise, a study suggests. Researchers compared hot baths and saunas with moderate cycling, and found similar physiological responses. However, baths won't lead to fat loss, muscle gain, or improved stamina. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. A hot bath could provide many of the same benefits as low-intensity aerobic exercise, researchers have found. Regular baths have previously been linked to a lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, as Insider's Samantha Crozier reported. A new mini-review by the University of Coventry suggests they provide further bene...

Shrinking number of unvaccinated people eager to get coronavirus jab: poll | TheHill – The Hill

A shrinking population of unvaccinated people say they're eager to get the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible this month, according to a poll released Friday.  The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) Vaccine Monitor determined that while 62 percent of respondents reported getting their COVID-19 shot, 4 percent say they will get vaccinated at soon as possible. The overall vaccination rate does show improvement since April’s survey, when 56 percent reported getting their shot. But the percentage of people who wanted the vaccine as soon as possible dropped from 9 percent in April.  The dwindling number of people eager for their vaccine suggests that officials at both the state and federal level may have to address more hesitant populations to achieve a widespread vaccination rate acr...

Youngsville pharmacist faces online backlash for confrontational approach to vaccine resistance – WTVD-TV

YOUNGSVILLE, n.C. (WTVD) -- In Youngsville, a small town pharmacy is at the center of a big firestorm on social media. "We have received phone calls. We have received death threats over the phone," said Umesh Chaudhury, co-owner and pharmacy manager at Youngsville Pharmacy on Main Street. He is also the voice of the store's Facebook account -- which over the past several weeks has been butting heads with customers and COVID-19 vaccine-resistant users on the Rolesville Community Facebook page. The rhetoric has been hot, sometimes harsh, with Chaudhury giving as much as he's getting. "The idea behind engaging on Facebook is just about getting the word out. Not just, 'hey we're doing vaccines,' but getting the word out with the scientific information." In one post he writes, "The storm is b...

For first time, Black residents of LA County seeing highest COVID-19 infection rates – KABC-TV

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- For the first time during the pandemic, Black residents of Los Angeles County have the highest infection rates of COVID-19, the county's health director said Thursday. Through most of the pandemic, the county's Latino population had experienced the highest rates of the virus. Case rates, hospitalizations and deaths in all county populations have dropped significantly since the winter surge, as vaccinations continue to increase. But in the last two weeks, county officials have seen a shift. "You can see that the highest case rates are now among Black residents at 45 cases per 100,000," said county public health director Dr. Barbara Ferrer. Besides the highest infection rate, Ferrer say African Americans are also seeing the most hospitalizations and deaths. "This is...

Bill Cosby denied parole as board says former actor needs to meet more requirements – CNN

Cosby, 83, is currently serving a 3-to-10-year sentence at a prison outside Philadelphia for drugging and sexually assaulting a former Temple University employee at his home in 2004. The letter, which indicated the board's decision was rendered on May 11, said Cosby must "participate in and complete additional institutional programs." The board cited Cosby's "failure to develop a parole release plan" and a "negative recommendation by the Department of Corrections" as factors that contributed to the decision. The letter stated that at Cosby's next interview with the board, it will review and consider whether he has successfully participated in and completed a treatment program for sex offenders and violence prevention. Cosby, according to the letter, must maintain a "clear conduct recor...
