An important message from Paul Gross on Melanoma Monday – WDIV ClickOnDetroit

I’ve always been thankful that I was born with my mother’s skin -- she has a darker skin tone that tans, and never had skin cancer in her life. My late father, on the other hand, had very fair skin. That, compounded with extensive sun exposure when he was stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico during World War II, caused him all sorts of problems later in life. He had several skin cancers removed from his head, face and ears, and many, many other pre-cancerous lesions proactively removed. It seemed like every few months, he was coming home from the dermatologist with bandages all over his face and scalp. I was thankful that I never had to go through any of this. Until I did. This past winter, I had a scab on the side of my head that just didn’t seem to want to heal. I finally went to the d...

In the week ending Sunday, the United States reported 344,463 cases. The daily average is down about 22,000 cases each day from a small peak seen three weeks ago. It's down much further from the records set in January; the United States is now reporting as many cases in a week as it was getting every two days then. Helping the cause: Almost 150 million Americans have received at least one dose of a vaccine, and over 40% of U.S. adults are fully vaccinated. Globally, however, daily deaths and new cases remain at or near all-time highs, driven to a great extent by India's well-docum...

Next Generation of Covid-19 Vaccines Could Be Pill or Spray – The Wall Street Journal

The next generation of Covid-19 vaccines in development could come as a pill or a nasal spray and be easier to store and transport than the current handful of shots that form the backbone of the world-wide vaccination effort. These newer vaccines, from U.S. government labs and companies including Sanofi SA, Altimmune Inc. and Gritstone Oncology Inc., also have the potential to provide longer-lasting immune responses and be more potent against newer and multiple viral variants, possibly helping to head off future pandemics, the companies say. Vaccines currently authorized for use in the U.S. from Pfizer Inc. and its partner BioNTech SE, as well as Moderna Inc., must be transported and stored at low temperatures and require two doses administ...
