SALT LAKE CITY — The first case of a rare blood-clotting condition thought to be linked to the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine has been diagnosed in Utah. A male patient was recently diagnosed with vaccine-induced Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia, also known as VITT, at the University of Utah Hospital, U. health officials said in a Wednesday news release. The patient, who is under the age of 50, was treated and is now recovering at home, according to Dr. Yazan Abou-Ismail, an assistant professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology at the University of Utah. "He continues to do well and feel well," Abou-Ismail said at a Wednesday news conference about the case. The blood clot condition led to a nationwide pause on administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine last month after...

Meghan Markle gets defended by author after critics accuse the duchess of plagiarizing her work – Fox News

Corrinne Averiss spoke out after online critics accused Meghan Markle of plagiarizing her work. On Tuesday, Random House Children’s Book announced that the Duchess of Sussex was releasing her first children’s book titled "The Bench," which is inspired by the relationship between her husband Prince Harry and their son Archie. The book, which will be released on June 8, is illustrated by award-winning illustrator Christian Robinson. The former American actress, 39, will narrate the audiobook edition. The announcement was immediately panned by some on social media who’ve accused the former "Suits" star of ripping off the 2018 release "The Boy on the Bench" written by Averiss. Piers Morgan slams consent criticism over revamped Snow White ride at reopened Disneyland – Fox News

Piers Morgan has slammed cancel culture and "wokeness" on social media once again. The former "Good Morning Britain" anchor penned a long essay for The Daily Mail on Wednesday railing against the criticism over the revamped Snow White ride at Disneyland in California.  Recently, two journalists explained how they found Snow White's Enchanted Wish problematic because at the end of the ride the Prince kisses Snow White while she's asleep. They questioned why a non-consensual kiss was included in the children's attraction. "Haven't we already agreed that consent in early Disney movies is a major issue? That teaching kids that kissing, when it hasn't been established if both parties are willing to engage, is not OK? It's hard to understand why the Disneyland of 2021 would choose to add a ...

Pete Davidson reveals why hes burning off his tattoos – Page Six

Pete Davidson’s tattoo removal journey is a major pain — in more ways than one. The “Saturday Night Live” star, 27, revealed he was scrubbing his ink in December, and opened up about the “really embarrassing” process on Tuesday’s episode of “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” “Burning them off is worse than getting them, because not only are they burning off your skin, but you’re wearing these big goggles, right? So you can’t see anything, and the doctor’s in there with you,” Davidson began. “Before he goes to laser each tattoo, you have to hear him announce what the tattoo is to make sure you want to keep it or not. So I’ll just be sitting there all high off the Pro-Nox [nitrous oxide], which I actually quite enjoy … and then, all of a sudden, I’ll just hear...

Researchers Analyze: How Accurate Were Early Expert Predictions on COVID-19? – SciTechDaily

Who made more accurate predictions about the course of the COVID-19 pandemic — experts or the public? A study from the University of Cambridge has found that experts such as epidemiologists and statisticians made far more accurate predictions than the public, but both groups substantially underestimated the true extent of the pandemic. Researchers from the Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication surveyed 140 UK experts and 2,086 UK laypersons in April 2020 and asked them to make four quantitative predictions about the impact of COVID-19 by the end of 2020. Participants were also asked to indicate confidence in their predictions by providing upper and lower bounds of where they were 75% sure that the true answer would fall — for example, a participant would say they were 7...

Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead is coming to theaters a week before Netflix – The Verge

Netflix is taking a different route for its new Zack Snyder-directed zombie heist movie, Army of the Dead. Rather than skip theaters and drop the new thriller directly in subscribers’ laps and homes, the company has reached an agreement with theater chains to screen the movie a week early starting May 14th in around 600 theaters, according to Variety. That’s Netflix’s widest US release yet for one of its feature projects, and it positions the film and the company to capture summer theatergoers’ attention and dollars right as screens are beginning to reopen across the country, and newly vaccinated film fans feel comfortable enough to watch how they used to. Variety says Netflix has partnered with Cinemark, Alamo Drafthouse, iPic, Landmark, Harkins, and Cinépolis theaters to make the ...
