Netflix, Amazon chiefs blast Hollywood foreign press over diversity, group responds – Fox Business

Netflix has cut ties with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) – at least for now. Then later Friday, Amazon confirmed a similar split from the organization that's behind the Golden Globe awards. The HFPA came under fire in recent months when it was revealed the organization lacked a single Black member, and faced accusations of somewhat unprofessional behaviors and accepting gifts from competing productions. On Thursday, the HFPA voted to make a handful of changes to the organization, including bringing in a Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer, as well as new members, presumably with a focus on diversity. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, however, was not thrilled with the changes made, and sent the HFPA a letter to demand more action be taken. Netflix CEO Ted ...

REUTERS/John Sibley/File Photo The new coronavirus will no longer be circulating in Britain by August, the government’s departing vaccine taskforce chief Clive Dix told the Daily Telegraph on Friday. "Sometime in August, we will have no circulating virus in the UK", Dix said, adding that he believed the vaccine booster programme could be pushed back to early 2022. The government is looking at which COVID-19 vaccines would offer the best booster shot for vulnerable people later this year. Covid-19: More Vaccines Near Approval, but Global Drive Could Remain Stalled – The New York Times

Here’s what you need to know: Lining up to receive the Sinopharm vaccine in Lahore, Pakistan on Wednesday. Credit...Arif Ali/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images The World Health Organization approved one Chinese-made Covid-19 vaccine and could soon approve another. The Biden administration has backed waiving intellectual property protections for vaccines, which could make it easier for more countries to make them. But the campaign to vaccinate the world is floundering and experts warn it will take more to reverse the trend. The need is urgent: The virus is spreading more rapidly than ever, driven largely by surges in South America and India. The longer it can spread unchecked, the more time it has to mutate into more contagious variants that could evade the protections of vaccines....

Black Fungus – A New Symptom Found In Diabetic Covid Patients – Gulte

We have a superfluity of coronavirus symptoms across the globe and today, we have an additional terrifying symptom to take into consideration. Nearly 40 cases of Mucormycosis, also known as black fungus, have been reported in Gujarat among those who have recovered from Covid-19. And eight people have lost their eyesight in Surat due to it. The sudden loss of vision is causing anxiety among the patients. However, Mucormycosis, a fungal infection is still not a “big outbreak” in the country. This symptom is usually found in Covid-19 patients who are diabetic. Black fungus is caused by a fungus named mucor, found on wet surfaces. So far, we have reported from those who are diabetic and it is seldom we see Mucormycosis in non-diabetic person. ...

Pearl Jam, pictured here with other, larger Pearl JamPhoto: Mike Coppola (Getty Images) Pearl Jam opened up its archives today, announcing that it’s putting audio from 186 of its old live shows on to a variety of music services. Clocking in at 5,404 tracks, the set of live songs is an incredible trove of material, one we can only imagine digging into during circumstances that might require us to stay indoors for long periods of time—possibly even a year!—while desperately seeking to find something, anything, to distract ourselves from constant reminders of our own mortality. But releasing it in the summer of 2021 is pretty good, too, we guess. We kid Pearl Jam—a band of noted kidders—but this is a pretty massive release of material, covering concerts recorded in 2000, 2003, 2008, and ...

Orthodox Jewish camp to ban kids, staff vaccinated for coronavirus – The Jerusalem Post

With summer coming and COVID-19 vaccines being deemed safe for children as young as 12, some camps are talking about the possibility of a mask-free summer for vaccinated campers. But one Jewish camp being planned for the summer is taking a different approach: barring any vaccinated camper or staff from attending at all. Advertisements for Camp Hikon, planned for upstate New York, appeared on email listservs popular in the Orthodox Jewish community just days after a private school in Miami made news for discouraging teachers from getting the vaccine and telling children they were not to have contact with vaccinated people. The camp’s announcement also comes as posters encouraging people not to get the COVID-19 vaccines appeared in Midwood, Brooklyn, the Orthodox neigh...
