Carey Mulligan’s ‘SNL’ Opening Monologue Crashed By Husband Marcus Mumford: “Did They Book A Musical Guest For Tonight?” – Deadline

Tonight, Carey Mulligan made her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live, talking in her opening monologue about how nice it is to be out of the house. “Oh my goodness. It’s so wonderful to be here. They just told me I’m the first English person to ever host this show,” she joked, “and as I’m saying that out loud, I’m realizing that could not possibly be true.” (British actor Daniel Kaluuya hosted the show just last week.) Given the fact that production was shuttered throughout much of 2020, Mulligan spent a year quarantining in the English countryside with her husband Marcus Mumford (lead singer of the band Mumford & Sons) and her two small children. “So, it’s very exciting to be somewhere where shops are open,” she admitted. “I never thought I’d say this, but walking into a ...

SNL takes on the Derek Chauvin trial via a Minnesota morning show – CNN

"It's been a tough week for news," Nwodim's anchor said. "There's so much to get into, but first we start with the trial of Derek Chauvin." Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, is on trial on charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. Nwodim's anchor said that watching the trial brought back "so many bad feelings" from last summer. "Sounds like we all agree there's no way that Derek Chauvin walks away from this," McKinnon's anchor said. Nwodim and Thompson's anchors stopped her there. "Well...," Nwodim and Thompson's anchors said, scrunching their faces. Nwodim's anchor added, "Let's just say, we've seen this movie before." McKinnon's anchor noted that "historically, police have gotten away in other cases l...

Los Angeles opens COVID-19 vaccine appointments to residents 16 and older – KABC-TV

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles has opened up COVID-19 vaccine appointments to all residents who are 16 and older. On Saturday, the city's website for COVID-19 vaccine registration showed an option for people 16 and older to book an appointment. Vaccinations for that group at city-run vaccination sites will start on Tuesday. In a statement, Mayor Eric Garcetti's office said all three vaccines will be available to people 18 years and older, with the Pfizer vaccine authorized for those aged 16 and 17. "We continue to receive a limited supply of vaccines, and when we receive greater supply in the weeks ahead, the City will be ready to administer even more vaccines quickly and safely," the statement read. The change to the city's website comes a few days before California is set to officia...

2021 WWE WrestleMania 37 results, recap, grades: Sasha Banks, Bianca Belair steal show in historic main event – CBSSports.com

After more than one year, WWE welcomed live fans back with Night 1 of WrestleMania 37 at Raymond James Stadium on Saturday night. Getting the show off the ground wasn't easy, however, as thunderstorms rolled through Tampa and caused a weather delay minutes after the show kicked off. After nearly an hour of waiting, the action finally got underway and a huge night followed. In the main event, Bianca Belair challenged Sasha Banks for the SmackDown women's championship. From the moment Belair won the 2021 Royal Rumble, fans had been anticipating a WrestleMania match between the two women. While lofty expectations can lead to major disappointments, Banks and Belair exceeded even the wildest expectations for the bout, delivering a truly great match on the biggest stage of...

SNL brilliantly satirizes Americas racial divide during the Derek Chauvin murder trial – Raw Story

NBC's "Saturday Night Live" tackled the Derek Chauvin murder trial. The shows cold open featured the fictional show "Eye on Minnesota." While the full panel agreed Chauvin should be found guilty for killing George Floyd, the two white panelists on the show said they thought Chauvin would be convicted, while the Black panelists were not so sure. "Let's just say we've seen this movie before," the Black female panelist explained. "You know, that's fair, I think skepticism of legal process is valid," the white female panelist said. "Historically police have gotten away in other cases like this." "Historically?" the Black male panelist asked. "She means every single time," the Black female panelist explained. The panel awkwardly discussed the trial and racial issues in America, eventually brin...

Bayley made it on WrestleMania 37 after all – Cageside Seats

In the days leading up to the show, we were all left feeling surprised that Bayley, a top star for the company and one of the best in the women’s division, wasn’t booked for the card on either night one (April 10) or night two (April 11) of WrestleMania 37 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Even she didn’t know why she wasn’t, though she took it in stride. It turns out, WWE found a space for her after all. Sure, it’s only a backstage segment, though she also showed up ringside to mix it up with Corey Graves and Michael Cole a bit. But it’s actually a pretty funny bit, or at least I laughed when she asked Titus O’Neil if he’s ever heard of her show, “Ding Dong, Hello,” and Titus, deadpan, responds with “I ain’t got cable.” The nWo laughs, and Bayley even seems to brea...
