Real-life Disaster Girl turns her meme into a $500,000 NFT – Engadget

The “Disaster Girl” photo that sparked a thousand memes is the latest to make it big all over again as an NFT. Zoe Roth, a 21-year-old college student and face of the viral “Disaster Girl,” sold an NFT of the meme for roughly $500,000 worth of Ether, The New York Times reported. The auction took place earlier this month, on auction site Foundation. Roth plans to use the funds to pay for school and make donations to charity, she told The Times. The now iconic image dates back to 2005, when her father, David Roth, snapped the photo in their neighborhood while watching local firefighters at a controlled burn. Eventually, he entered it into a contest (he won), and the photo was quickly picked up by internet forums, according to Know Your Meme. It’s not the first time an old meme has found...

Five People Have Been Arrested After Lady Gagas French Bulldogs Were Stolen And Her Dogwalker Was Shot – BuzzFeed News

Five people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of Lady Gaga's dogwalker and the theft of the singer's two French bulldogs, the Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday. Three of the suspects were charged with armed robbery and attempted murder in the incident, which prompted Gaga to offer a reward of $500,000 for the safe return of the dogs. But, police said, the three men were not targeting the pop star and did not know the dogs belonged to her. Instead, they allegedly tried to take the dogs because of the breed's high resale value. "This was a brazen street crime that left a man seriously wounded," Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. The men, who police said were documented gang members, were identified as 18-year-old Ja...

This month, a private school in Florida told employees that if they got vaccinated, they could not interact with students because “we have at least three women with menstrual cycles impacted after having spent time with a vaccinated person.” In reality, it is impossible to experience any effects from being near a vaccinated person, because none ...
