Anthony Hopkins Posts Video Reaction To Surprise Best Actor Oscar Win, Pays Tribute To Chadwick Boseman – Deadline

Anthony Hopkins paid tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman in his first reaction to his success at the Academy Awards last night, where the actor picked up his second Oscar and first since his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in 1992 pic The Silence Of The Lambs. The Father star spoke in a video posted to his Instagram page (watch below) from his homeland of Wales, where he presumably woke up to discover the news of his unexpected win in the Best Actor category. Earlier this AM, Hopkins called The Father director Florian Zeller while the latter was appearing on BBC Radio 4 to discuss the film’s success. The di...

Covid-19 live updates: New U.S. cases still at a ‘precarious’ level, Fauci says, amid slowing vaccination rates – The Washington Post

Anthony S. Fauci, President Biden’s chief medical adviser, warned Americans that the country’s level of 50,000 new infections a day is still too high and urged people to get vaccinated, even as rates of new doses administered have dropped 14 percent in the past week. “That’s a precarious level, and we don’t want that to go up,” he said on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday, as he urged Americans to get vaccinated. Public attitudes to vaccinations have been breaking down along party lines, with many more Republicans expressing reluctance to get doses. In a poll by NBC News, 24 percent of respondents who identified as Republican said they would not get vaccinated, compared with just 4 percent of respondents who identified as Democrat. Rates of vaccination in predominantly Republican-voting states...

Michigan Became National Hotspot For COVID-19 Due To Variants And Lack Of Vigilance – HuffPost

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) — Eric Gala passed up an opportunity to get a coronavirus vaccine when shots became available in Michigan, and he admits not taking the virus seriously enough. Then he got sick with what he thought was the flu. He thought he would sweat it out and then feel back to normal. Before long, the 63-year-old Detroit-area retiree was in a hospital hooked up to a machine to help him breathe. He had COVID-19. “I was having more trouble breathing and they turned the oxygen up higher — that’s when I got scared and thought I wasn’t going to make it,” a visibly weary Gala told The Associated Press on Wednesday from his hospital bed at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, north of Detroit. “I had so many people tell me this was a fake disease.” Gala’s situation illustrates how...

The Story Is in the Sumac

Anas Atassi didn’t set out to be a cookbook writer, but his Syrian heritage made the feat an inevitable part of his life. The Amsterdam-based engineer-by-training is an equally talented home cook and storyteller, and his first cookbook, Sumac: Recipes and Stories from Syria, named for the bold red Syrian spice, illuminates these gifts. Though Atassi hasn’t traveled to Syria in more than ten years, memories of eating eggplant jam with his sister, spooning rich soups during Ramadan, and the smells of khebzeh harra (flatbread with spicy tomato sauce) cooked at local street stalls permeate his mind as well as his kitchen. When he started university in Europe, he missed the flavors and spices of his culture, like Aleppo pepper, za’atar, and, yes—suma...
