Britney Spears Asks to Address Court Overseeing Her Conservatorship – The New York Times

Britney Spears has something to say. After years of relative silence regarding the court-approved conservatorship that has controlled much of her life since 2008, a lawyer for the pop singer requested on Tuesday that Spears be allowed to speak at a hearing soon. “The conservatee has requested that I seek from the court a status hearing at which she can address the court directly,” Samuel D. Ingham III, the court-appointed lawyer who represents Spears in her conservatorship, asked the judge overseeing the case. He proposed that the hearing be scheduled on an “expedited basis,” preferably within 30 days. The judge, Brenda Penny, agreed, and she set the hearing regarding the status of the conservatorship for June 23. An additional hearing in the case was scheduled for July. The request on b...

Godzilla vs. Kong Director Adam Wingard in Talks for Legendarys Next MonsterVerse Film (Exclusive) – Hollywood Reporter

Given King of the Monsters’ less-than-stellar results, Legendary insiders had viewed Godzilla vs. Kong as perhaps the end of the current version of the franchise, even as executives believed they had saved the best for last. But then Godzilla vs. Kong opened. The movie, which bowed stateside March 31 to $31.6 million, has crossed $400 million globally. It is the top-grossing Hollywood-produced movie released since the pandemic upended the movie business. And it has yet to open in multiple larger markets, among them the U.K., Brazil and Japan. It also marks the second-best performance in the four-movie MonsterVerse franchise, trailing only Kong: Skull Island’s 2017 tally of $566 million. ...

Jeff Lowe Accuses Carole Baskin of Spying, Fight Breaks Out with Neighbors – TMZ

Jeff Lowe claims Carole and Howard Baskin are spying on him with drones, and when he went to confront them, a fight allegedly broke out with his neighbors and the cops had to respond. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the Lowes called cops Tuesday morning to report a disturbance at their property in Thackerville, and when deputies showed up they discovered Jeff had gotten in a fight with a neighbor -- not Carole and Howard. Jeff says it all started when his son saw a drone flying over the zoo, and when he went to investigate he claims he saw Carole, Howard and his neighbors, a couple, hanging with a film crew. ...

Actor Randy Quaid says he is seriously considering running for California governor – Daily Mail

Actor Randy Quaid says he is 'seriously considering' running for California governor against Caitlyn Jenner.  The 70-year-old actor tweeted Tuesday afternoon, 'I’m seriously considering running for governor. The prosecutorial corruption in California (esp Santa Barbara & the Bell scandal) is rampant; and I promise that if elected I will clean up the District Attorney Offices throughout the state.' Quaid, the older brother of Dennis Quaid who is also known for his role in National Lampoon films, followed up with a hashtag, '#RandyQuaid4CAGOV'. This comes after former athlete and reality star Caitlyn Jenner announced her bid to run for governor last week.  And on Monday, organizers of the recall effort against California Gov. Gavin Newsom collected enough valid signatures to qualify for...

If people give you trouble about not wearing a mask outside, just ignore them – Business Insider

Outdoor masking has done little to reduce the spread of COVID, and it's finally going away. If you'd rather not wear a mask outside, don't, and don't worry about who's judging you. But if other people keep wearing masks outside, you shouldn't care. It's their face, not yours. This is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed are those of the author. See more stories on Insider's business page. The CDC today is giving formal permission for Americans to do something that much of the country has already been doing for months: Taking off your mask when engaging in most outdoor activities. The CDC says this ...

Reading the Shadow and Bone books? Don’t start with the first one – Polygon

If you binge-watched Netflix’s Shadow and Bone this weekend and you’ve never read the Leigh Bardugo books it was based on, you might be thinking about trying the main trilogy the show adapts. Here’s some unsolicited advice: Don’t start with the first novel, Shadow and Bone. But wait, you might ask yourself, is that not the book that the show is based on? Isn’t it the first book of the series? The one that sets the stage for everything else? The one that introduces the Grisha, Sun Summoner Alina Starkov, and the swath of sentient darkness that tears Ravka in half? Well, yes. But you know how some Star Wars fans recommend a non-intuitive order to watch the movies? I’m about to suggest a similar strategy for diving into the Grishaverse books. It isn’t a particularly controversial ...

Justin Bieber is being accused of cultural appropriation over his hair. Again. – CNN

Dreadlocks are traditionally connected to the culture and identities of Black people, and wearing them is viewed by some as cultural appropriation. On social media some Black women called Bieber's hairstyle offensive and disrespectful and urged him to change it and apologize. CNN has reached out to Bieber's representatives for comment. "Cultural appropriation is about the power dynamic. When people with power and privilege decide to 'validate' customs and traditions that oppressed people have long been marginalized for by saying 'This is the hot new thing,' then we have serious problems," writer and speaker Feminista Jones told CNN in 2016. The new criticism of Bieber's hair is just the latest cultural controversy involving the 27-year-old Canadian singer, who has long been ac...

L.A. County hits yellow tier; widest reopening may come soon – Los Angeles Times

Los Angeles County has one foot in the most lenient category of the state’s COVID-19 reopening system, a momentous achievement for a region that was once so ravaged by the coronavirus that it was considered the epicenter of the pandemic in California. According to new state data released Tuesday, the county’s coronavirus case rate — adjusted based on the number of tests performed — dropped to 1.9 new cases per day per 100,000 people, reaching the threshold to enter California’s final yellow tier. The county would have to maintain its numbers until next week to advance. “It’s so encouraging to see the work we’re doing together having such a profound effect on the health and well-being of people all across our communities,” L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said Monday, be...
