MSCHF will not ship its 666th pair of Satan Shoes after Nike lawsuit – The Verge

Internet collective MSCHF says it’s not infringing on Nike’s trademark with a pair of exclusive, blood-infused “Satan Shoes,” setting the stage for a bigger legal battle. After filing a lawsuit earlier this week, Nike sought a temporary restraining order to bar MSCHF from fulfilling any orders of its Satan Shoes — a $1,018 Nike sneaker embellished with a pentagram and allegedly injected with ink and a single drop of blood. But in a response filed yesterday, MSCHF says all but one pair of the shoes, a 666 pair collaboration with rapper Lil Nas X, have already shipped. “Contrary to Nike’s speculation in its papers, all but one pair of the shoes already have been sold and shipped. MSCHF has no intention of issuing additional Satan Shoes,” MSCHF’s attorneys wrote in a response to the ...

Mia Farrow addresses vicious rumors about the past deaths of her children – CNN

In the wake of the debut of HBO's "Allen v. Farrow," there has been online discussion about the decision not to address the deaths of three of Farrow's adopted children in the docuseries. (HBO and CNN share parent company WarnerMedia.) Farrow posted a lengthy statement on her verified Twitter account Wednesday, writing that "Few families are perfect, and any parent who has suffered the loss of a child knows that pain is merciless and ceaseless." "However, some vicious rumors based on untruths have appeared online concerning the lives of my three children," she wrote. "To honor their memory, their children and every family that has dealt with the death of a child, I am posting this message." She wrote that her daughter, Tam, died in 2000 at age 17 from an accidental prescriptio...

(AP) — Can I still spread the coronavirus after Im vaccinated? – Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — Can I still spread the coronavirus after I’m vaccinated? It’s possible. Experts say the risk is low, but are still studying how well the shots blunt the spread of the virus. The current vaccines are highly effective at preventing people from getting seriously sick with COVID-19. But even if vaccinated people don’t get sick, they might still get infected without showing any symptoms. Experts think the vaccine would also curb the chances of those people spreading the virus. “A vaccinated person controls the virus better, so the chances of transmitting will be greatly reduced,” said Dr. Robert Gallo a virus expert at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Among the evidence so far: Studies suggesting if people do get infected despite vaccination, they harbor less c...

Epidemiologist predicts surge of dangerous COVID-19 variant in US – New York Post

It’s just a matter of time before the highly contagious UK COVID-19 variant wreaking havoc around the world surges in the US, a leading epidemiologist warned Thursday. “This B.1.1.7 surge is going to happen. It’s not an issue of if. It’s going to happen,” Michael Osterholm, head of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, said on CNN’s “New Day.” “And if you follow what’s happened in the past year, the upper Midwest and Northeast lights up first. They have the first set of cases and the southern Sun Belt states light up next,” Osterholm said. “Even though we’re seeing a few cases in that area, mark my word, in the next six to eight weeks, we’re going to see that area light up, too. We need to get more vaccine out. ...

Experts say ‘herd immunity’ could conquer COVID-19. But is it even possible? – The Boston Globe

Public health specialists offer a wide range of estimates when suggesting the target number of people who must be protected from COVID-19 for herd immunity to stamp out the virus, ranging from 60 to 90 percent of the population. Massachusetts has set a goal of vaccinating about 75 percent of adults in the state — 4.1 million residents — but that’s only roughly 60 percent of its entire population, including children. It’s an ambitious goal, but no one is sure if it will be enough to reach the threshold. The reason for all the uncertainty? There is still a lot that we don’t know about both the virus and the vaccines. Herd immunity itself is quite real, and we’ve seen it in action: Measles largely disappeared from the United States when about 95 percent of the population was immunized, acco...

Netflix declined to say how much it was paying for the films, which Johnson will direct with Daniel Craig returning as inspector Blanc. However, according to Deadline, the price approaches $450 million, which would make it one of the largest acquisitions Netflix has ever made.
