Boy, 8, Saves Sisters Life Thanks To John Cena Prank Video – HuffPost

It’s no joke: A 20-month-old girl in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, owes her life to her older brother and a prank video by pro wrestler John Cena. Last week, little Leila Dempsey started choking on a chicken nugget while she and her older brother Jaxson, 8, were being driven home by their dad, Matt Dempsey. Dad was behind the wheel, but Jaxson rose to the occasion. “It made me feel scared because I thought she was going to die, but then this thing came into my mind. I told my dad to pull over then I started to pat her back,” Jaxson told local CBS affiliate WYOU. Jaxson leaned his sister forward and slapped her on the back between the shoulder blades with his palm and was able to dislodge the nugget from Layla’s throat within 30 seconds. The family was happy about Jaxson’s quick acti...

The Trench, meanwhile, was to have been a horror-tinged project spinning out of Aquaman and focused on the group of the deadly amphibious creatures seen in the $1 billion-grossing 2018 film. Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald had written the...

As Nation Speeds to Vaccinate All, Maryland’s Path Shows Challenges Ahead – The New York Times

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — The path to quickly vaccinating the nation’s 250 million adults will be paved with pharmacy chains, hospitals and hulking stadiums where uniformed troops help inoculate thousands of people a day. But it will also rely on the recreation center at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden here, along with tiny storefront service organizations and vaccine-stocked vans that scour neighborhoods for the unprotected. Maryland offers a microcosm of the issues states face as they rush to open enough vaccination sites to meet President Biden’s goal of making every adult eligible for Covid-19 shots by May 1. It has encountered nearly all the geographic, demographic and human behavioral challenges that come with a public health task of this scale: poor urban neighborhoods where man...

Genetic Mutations Add Up to Very High Blood Cancer Risk in Three Popular Dog Breeds – SciTechDaily

Genomic study finds cancer-linked variants in Bernese mountain dogs, Rottweilers, and retrievers. Six genetic variants add up to determine the risk of several blood cancers in pre-disposed dog breeds, according to a study by Benoît Hédan at the University of Rennes and colleagues, publishing on April 8th in the open-access journal PLOS Genetics. The results confirm a known tumor-suppressor gene as a risk factor for histiocytic sarcoma — a rare and aggressive blood cancer that affects both dogs and humans — as well as identifying four new genetic loci associated with the disease. The researchers sequenced genomic DNA extracted from blood samples from Bernese mountain dogs, Rottweilers, flat-coated retrievers, and golden retrievers, including 172 dogs diagnosed with histiocytic ...
