NEW YORK (AP) — An Emmy-winning production designer who was known to be a hoarder has been found dead under a pile of garbage in her New York City home. Evelyn Sakash, 66, was found Tuesday lying on her kitchen floor buried under garbage, a police spokesperson said. Sakash was found by her sister, who had hired a cleaning crew to clear out the woman’s home in the College Point section of Queens and look for her, police said. Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center: A total of 57,326 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Humboldt County at Public Health clinics and by other approved local vaccinators.  Local vaccination data has been updated on the Humboldt County Data Dashboard. California lifts 120-mile travel advisory but still wants you to stay home – Los Angeles Times

California on Thursday lifted the statewide advisory that asked leisure travelers to stay within 120 miles of home to curb the spread of COVID-19, according to a news release. However, the California Department of Public Health still discourages travelers from leaving the state or the country “until we can achieve higher levels of vaccination in California and beyond.” New recommendations for nonessential, or leisure, travel include taking a COVID-19 test before and after you travel, even if you have been vaccinated, and self-quarantining for seven days, even if your test is negative. “Delay travel and stay home to protect yourself and others from COVID-19, even if you are vaccinated,” Centers for Disease Control guidelines say. Testing should take place one to three days before you le...

In Alaska, COVID-19 case counts are rising again — and the pace of vaccination has plateaued – Anchorage Daily News

As COVID-19 case counts in Alaska begin to climb again, health officials say getting the state vaccinated is the best way to tamp down spread — but the pace of vaccination is slowing. ”This is the crux of where we’re at right now with this pandemic,” state epidemiologist Dr. Joe McLaughlin said this week. “We need to get people vaccinated.” Health experts have billed high rates of vaccination as a ticket out of the pandemic, and Alaska last month became the first state to offer vaccinations for all residents 16 and older. The Alaskans most eager to get the vaccine have already received their shots. Now, the new challenge state officials are facing is how to reach a busier and sometimes more hesitant group of individuals. That’s prompted a shift in...
