Rapper DMX on life support following heart attack, family says – KABC-TV

WHITE PLAINS, New York -- Rapper DMX is on life support in a New York hospital and in grave condition, according to his family. DMX's attorney, Murray Richman, said the hip hop artist, whose real name is Earl Simmons, had a heart attack. "I received a call this morning that Earl Simmons was in the hospital, at the White Plains Hospital, and that he had had a heart attack, and I'm not sure how it was induced and that he's on life support," Richman said. Richman did not say if the rapper suffered an overdose, as has been reported by a number of outlets. "I've spoken to the family and the family and I are quite close with each other. I am concerned about his well-being and mindful of his significance. I have known Earl for over 25 years and I believe that his music is quite poignant, very i...

(Photo: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic)Millie Bobby Brown was only 10 when she auditioned for the role of Jane "Eleven" Ives on the Netflix hit Stranger Things. However, seven years later, her fans can't accept the fact that she's not a little girl.  "I'm only 17, but at the end of the day, I'm learning to be a woman. I'm learning to be a young woman," she told MTV News in a Wednesday video interview. "So being a young girl, people watch you grow up, right? And they've almost become invested in your growth and your journey. But they aren't ready to accept the fact that you're growing up."   Brown noted that her fashion choices are often what upsets fans the most. "So I wear a crop top and people are like, 'She's 10...

COVID-19 restrictions may return in suburban Cook County: official – Chicago Tribune

The warning comes as suburban Cook County recorded a seven-day average of daily cases at 498, a spike mostly driven by the 20s, 30s, 50s and 40s age groups, in that order, according to this week’s figures. The positivity rate was 5% as of last week, creeping toward the 8% benchmark that last fall shut down indoor dining, among other things. But the higher rates reported among young adults — 6% for those under 20 — is “extremely worrisome,” Rubin said.

Bears Are Acting Like Friendly Dogs Due To A Strange Brain Condition – HuffPost

A mysterious ailment is turning some black bears friendly and unafraid of humans, among other strange symptoms. Researchers believe the illness, which appears to afflict young bears around a year old, is a kind of encephalitis, meaning an inflammation of the brain, according to a news release from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife late last month. Since 2014, a handful of bears in Nevada and California have shown signs of the condition, and four California bears were confirmed to have it in the last year. “The first bear I personally rescued was diagnosed with encephalitis in March of 2018,” Ann Bryant of the Bear Education Aversion Response told Live Science. “She walked into a school and entered a classroom where she sat down among the children, behaving very much lik...

Virus Variants Threaten to Draw Out the Pandemic, Scientists Say – The New York Times

For weeks, the mood in much of the United States has been buoyant. Cases, hospitalizations and deaths from the coronavirus have fallen steeply from their highs, and millions of people are being newly vaccinated every day. Restaurants, shops and schools have reopened. Some states, like Texas and Florida, have abandoned precautions altogether. In measurable ways, Americans are winning the war against the coronavirus. Powerful vaccines and an accelerating rollout all but guarantee an eventual return to normalcy — to backyard barbecues, summer camps and sleepovers. But it is increasingly clear that the next few months will be painful. So-called variants are spreading, carrying mutations that make the coronavirus both more contagious and in some cases more deadly. Even as vaccines were author...

Ex-WeWork CEO Adam Neumann plotting secret new pandemic biz – New York Post

Don’t count Adam Neumann out. The disgraced former WeWork CEO may have lost his empire, but an insider told The Post that Neumann, 41, is already plotting his mysterious next business move. “It involves what happened in the world because of the pandemic,” the insider said. “He’s got big plans and he’s waiting for the right time to announce them.” Neumann reportedly hasn’t seen the buzzy new Hulu documentary “WeWork: Or the Making and Breaking of a $47 Billion Unicorn” that details his spectacular rise and fall as CEO of the once-hot office space startup. The entrepreneur is portrayed in the documentary as a charismatic but deluded charlatan who convinced financial movers and shakers — from Chase Bank’s Jamie Dimon to SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son — to...

April the Giraffe, Who Became an Internet Sensation in 2017, Dies – The New York Times

April the giraffe, an internet sensation who gave birth nearly four years ago as an audience of millions watched via livestream, and helped educate the public about her species, died on Friday, Animal Adventure Park, her home, announced. Veterinarians euthanized April after her arthritis continued to worsen, the park said. April, who produced five calves in her lifetime, was 20 when she died, the park said on Facebook. Giraffes in captivity have an average life expectancy of 20 to 25 years; their life span in the wild is about 10 to 15 years. April attracted more than 16 million viewers on April 15, 2017, as the animal park live-streamed her giving birth on YouTube to her youngest, Tajiri, who is male. The park had been drawing viewers for months as they checked on April’s pregnancy, whi...

The final insult: Some dying of COVID while awaiting vaccine – The Detroit News

After months of hoping to receive a COVID-19 immunization and then weeks of fighting the illness after one never came, Air Force veteran Diane Drewes was down to her last few breaths at a hospice center in Ohio when the phone rang. It was a health care worker, calling to schedule her first appointment for a coronavirus shot. Drewes’ daughter Laura Brown was stunned by the timing of the call in January but didn’t lash out over the phone or even explain that her 75-year-old mom was at the point of death. There just wasn’t any point, she said. “But me and my sister were upset that it came too late,” Brown said. “It seemed like the final insult.” More than 247,000 people have died of COVID-19 in the U.S. since vaccines first became available mid-December. Officials had warned that dispensing ...
