A third of COVID survivors suffer mental or neurological problems, study reveals – New York Post

A third of coronavirus patients were found to suffer from psychiatric or brain problems within six months of their COVID-19 diagnosis, according to a study published Tuesday. Researchers analyzed the health records of 236,379 COVID patients, mostly from the US, and found that 34 percent had been diagnosed with neurological or psychiatric disorders six months on. About one in eight of the patients, or 12.8 percent, were diagnosed for the first time with such an illness, the study showed. Anxiety, at 17 percent, and depression or mood disorders, at 14 percent, were the most common diagnoses, according to the research. Instances of post-COVID cases of stroke, dementia and other neurological disorders were rarer, but still significant — especially in pe...

Teachers unions continue negotiations even after 80% of teachers get vaccinated – Fox News

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced Tuesday that 80% of all teachers, school staff and childcare workers in the U.S. have received at least the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. Roughly 8 million pre-K through 12th grade workers had been vaccinated by the end of March, following President Biden’s March 2 directive to make all school staff and childcare workers eligible to receive the vaccine. CALIFORNIA TEENS CAN GO TO AN AMUSEMENT PARK BUT CAN'T GO TO MATH CLASS "Our push to ensure that teachers, school staff and childcare workers were vaccinated during March has paid off and paved the way for safer in-person learning," CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said Tuesday. "CDC will build on the success of this program and work with our partners to continue exp...

Watch the long-lost campy Soviet version of The Lord of the Rings – CNET

Tolkien's Lord of the Rings saga wait for the mega-bucks Amazon series, they can indulge in a campier version of the famed fantasy tale. If you love the kind of cheesy films mocked by Mystery Science Theater 3000 and RiffTrax, you'll likely appreciate the shlocky goodness of a 1991 Soviet television version of the LOTR trilogy.  From the sc...

Sheryl Underwood breaks silence after Sharon Osbourne’s exit from ‘The Talk’: ‘This was out of my control’ – Fox News

Sheryl Underwood is finally speaking out following Sharon Osbourne’s exit from "The Talk" last month.  News of Osbourne's departure came a few weeks after a heated exchange between Osbourne and Underwood, in which Osbourne expressed support for Piers Morgan after he left "Good Morning Britain" over differing opinions about Meghan Markle following the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. In addition, the intense discussion led to a subsequent internal investigation and hiatus from air before Osbourne ultimately stepped away from the show.  Now, during an April 3rd episode of her "Sheryl Underwood Radio" podcast, Underwood has opened up about the moment. Girls5evaImage: Peacock Tina Fey and Meredith Scardino’s comedy series Girls5eva was one of the more high-profile announcements of Peacock’s first wave (because it was co-created by Tina Fey and has a pretty famous cast), and now we finally have our first look at the series. Girls5eva, as you might be able to guess from that name, is about a ‘90s girl group that suddenly gets renewed relevance when a rapper samples their one hit, inspiring them to reunite and plan a comeback. The girls are played by Sara Bareilles, René Elise Goldsberry, Paula Pell, and Busy Philipps, making this Bareilles second big TV project in the last couple of years and second big TV project for a fledgling streaming service (she did the music for Apple TV+’s Little Voice and appeared in the series as herself). ...

Research reveals burnout among Utah women surpasses hope amid COVID-19 economic crisis – KSL.com

SALT LAKE CITY — As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, new research has revealed that Utah women are experiencing burnout more than they feel hope. It comes as income decreased and hours increased in some industries. The data from the Utah Women & Leadership Project was recently released as the pandemic has raged for more than a year and brought with it death, economic crises and mental health problems for residents. "We need to do specific things in our communities to raise hope and bring down (feeling) burned out," Susan Madsen, founder and director of the UWLP, explained. "Because our burnout is higher than our hope right now." A total of 3,542 Utah women responded to the survey, exceeding the original goal of 2,000 respondents. Tuesday's report is the first of several upcoming brief...

Regé-Jean Page allegedly rejected for role because of race – Los Angeles Times

DC Entertainment reportedly passed on “Bridgerton” breakout Regé-Jean Page for a role in Syfy’s “Krypton” after an executive allegedly argued that the series’ lead could not be portrayed by a Black actor. Before his star skyrocketed with the release of Shonda Rhimes’ hit period drama, Page auditioned to play Superman’s grandfather in the action program, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Despite the “Krypton” creators’ reported desire to diversify the DC Extended Universe, then-DC chief creative officer Geoffrey Johns allegedly said Superman’s grandfather could not be Black. In a statement paraphrased Tuesday by THR, a rep for Johns defended the casting decision on the grounds that the Hollywood exec “believed fans expected the character to look like a young Henry Cavill,” who is white ...
