Summoning seniors: Big new push to vaccinate older Americans – The Associated Press

CLARKSDALE, Miss. (AP) — The first hurdle was getting on the bus. Seventy-four year old Linda Busby hesitated outside a community center where older people were loading up to go get the coronavirus vaccine. “I was scared, I’m not afraid to say that,” she said Wednesday after getting her shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after encouragement from a staff member and her brother. “I thought I wasn’t going to get it at first. Nobody likes getting shots.” Busby’s hesitance is just what the Biden administration and its allies in the states are combating, one person at a time, as the White House steps up appeals to seniors to get inoculated. The vaccination rate for this top-priority group is reaching a plateau even as supplies have expanded. About 76% of Americans aged 65 and older hav...

Vaccine passports: The new trend in California? – The Mercury News

On Friday afternoon, as they have done for generations every spring, baseball fans will head to San Francisco for the Giants home opener. But to enter the ballpark this year, they will need to bring something in addition to their ticket: proof they have been vaccinated or the results of a negative COVID-19 test taken within the past 72 hours. That requirement — imposed by San Francisco public health officials — has Bay Area residents asking: Is this a new trend or an outlier as California continues to reopen? For now, it appears to be a unique case, experts say. But the wider issue is still evolving. President Joe Biden and Gov. Gavin Newsom have said recently that they will not require a “vaccine passport,” or proof of vaccination, for people to attend gatherings or events. Ther...

Dave Chappelle says dirty notes’ left for Trump staffers came from celebs, not Obama aides: ‘I saw them’ – Fox News

Dave Chappelle is revealing more details into the infamous disparaging notes some of Donald Trump staffers said they had received when Trump moved into the White House in 2017. At the time, the validity of the claims alleging that messages with "you will fail" and "you aren’t going to make it" -- which were left in various offices along with a number of "Obama books" -- was called into question as former President Barack Obama’s aides vehemently denied they were responsible for such juvenile charades. Now, comedian and longtime friend of Obama, Dave Chappelle said the messages existed but were left by prank-playing celebrities during a final curtain call party for the Obama administration. "Remember when the Trump administration moved in, they said the Obama staff left dirty notes for...

Armys own vaccine that could fight COVID variants begins clinical trials – ArmyTimes.com

A unique vaccine produced by the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research started clinical testing Tuesday, and Army researchers hope it will combat variants of SARS-COV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. The vaccine, called spike ferritin nanoparticle, or SpFN, could also help fight other coronaviruses, a group of related RNA viruses that often cause respiratory-related diseases in mammals. Army researchers have been tracking the threat posed by new coronaviruses even before the pandemic, according to Kayvon Modjarrad, director of emerging infectious diseases at Walter Reed. That threat has been accelerating in recent years. “That’s why we need a vaccine like this: one that has potential to protect broadly and proactively against multiple coronavirus species and strains,” ...

Scott Rudin Slammed As ‘Abusive, Racist & Sexist’ By Fellow ‘True Grit’ EP Megan Ellison After Exposé – Deadline

Megan Ellison spared Scott Rudin no quarter today. “This piece barely scratches the surface of Scott Rudin’s abusive, racist, and sexist behavior”, the Annapurna CEO said online after a scathing Hollywood Reporter cover story published today on alleged misconduct by the volatile EGOT producer. “Similarly to Harvey, too many are afraid to speak out,” the Bombshell EP added in the mid-morning tweet. “ I support and applaud those who did. There’s good reason to be afraid because he’s vindictive and has no qualms about lying.” In regards to both Rudin and Weinstein, this is no second hand insight by Ellison. She worked with Rudin as an executive producer on the 10x Oscar nominated Coen Brothers 2010 western remake True Grit, which was distributed by Paramount. Ellison help...
