Travis Barker debuts new tattoo of Kourtney Kardashians name – Page Six

Travis Barker is keeping girlfriend Kourtney Kardashian close to his heart. The Blink-182 rocker, 45, debuted a new tattoo on Thursday: the eldest Kardashian sister’s first name inked in script above his left nipple. Barker is so covered in tats from head to toe that his latest design appears to be layered on top of a different chest tattoo. Kardashian confirmed the sentimental tattoo, posting a photo on her Instagram of the tat. “Goals,” TikToker Addison Rae commented. “Rare,” Stephanie Shephard said. Some fans thought the couple were moving way too fast with the gesture. “They cursed now,” one person commented. “You’ll regret this!,” another said. However, this may not be Barker’s first tattoo dedicated to the 41-year-old reality star; l...

Hollywood Bowl sets reopening date after COVID-19 closure – Los Angeles Times

Dust off the seat cushion and grab your picnic basket. The Hollywood Bowl is coming back — and sooner than you might expect. After COVID-19 forced the storied venue to scrap the 2020 season — the first full cancellation in 98 years — the Los Angeles Philharmonic is expected to announce Friday that the Bowl will reopen May 15 with a free concert for healthcare workers, first responders and other essential workers, including grocery store staff, custodians and delivery drivers. “This is the moment we’ve been waiting for,” said L.A. Phil President and Chief Executive Chad Smith. “The Bowl is back.” The 2021 season, which officially will kick off in early July, consists of 14 weeks of concerts, possibly attended by full capacity crowds given the state’s plan to reopen businesses and venues ...

A year after COVID-19 superspreader, family finds closure – Associated Press

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. (AP) — With dish soap, brushes and plastic water jugs in hand, Carole Rae Woodmansee’s four children cleaned the gravestone their mother shares with their father, Jim. Each scrub shined engraved letters spelling out their mother’s name and the days of her birth and death: March 27, 1939, and March 27, 2020. Carole passed away on her 81st birthday. That morning marked a year since she died of complications of COVID-19 after contracting it during a choir practice that sickened 53 people and killed two — a superspreader event that would become one of the most pivotal transmission episodes in understanding the virus. For the siblings, the somber anniversary offered a chance at closure after the pandemic stunted their mourning. They were finally holding a memorial befi...

How tech companies are ignoring the pandemic’s mental health crisis – The Verge

There is plenty that scientists don’t understand about the long-term effects of COVID-19 on society. But a year in, at least one thing seems clear: the pandemic has been terrible for our collective mental health — and a surprising number of tech platforms seem to have given the issue very little thought. First, the numbers. Nature reported that the number of adults in the United Kingdom showing symptoms of depression had nearly doubled from March to June of last year, to 19 percent. In the United States, 11 percent of adults reported feeling depressed between January and June 2019; by December 2020, that number had nearly quadrupled, to 42 percent. Prolonged isolation created by lockdowns has been linked to disruptions in sleep, increased drug and alcohol use, and weight gain, ...

I’m salivating over this new four-volume Philip K. Dick collection by the Folio Society – The Verge

The Folio Society has released a limited-edition, four-volume set of Philip K. Dick’s collected short stories and I am seriously considering selling my plasma to buy a copy. Each volume is bound in fluorescent colors, with 2,560 pages of text containing some 118 stories. There are 24 illustrations by 24 different artists, and the set itself has a theme inspired by the symbols found on Zener cards — famously used throughout the 20th century to test for telepaths (mind-reading being a recurrent theme in Dick’s fiction). The collection is absolutely stunning, like so many special editions by The Folio Society, but has a hefty price-tag of £495 ($679). There are also only 750 copies available to buy and it looks like they’re selling out quick. Philip K. Dick is an undisputed ti...
