Company in charge of vaccinating CPS employees misallocated 6,000 vaccines, Chicago Health Department says – Chicago Tribune

Innovative Express Care released a statement late Tuesday saying the health department’s decision “leaves us bewildered, saddened, and frankly disappointed in our local government. CDPH officials never made it clear to us as a provider that we should be storing vaccines in a refrigerator for people awaiting second doses. Rather, we have been following the nation’s commitment to get as many vaccines in eligible patients’ arms, as quickly as possible.”

WarnerMedia CEO Stands Up to Toxic Snyder Cut Fans: ‘That Behavior Is Reprehensible’ – IndieWire

"We’re not tolerating any of that," WarnerMedia CEO Ann Sarnoff said about the toxic culture surrounding the Snyder Cut. In a recent interview with Variety, WarnerMedia CEO Ann Sarnoff condemned Snyder Cut bullies on social media and stressed that follow-up viral movements urging Warner Bros. to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse and #ReleaseTheAyerCut (referring to David Ayer’s original cut of “Suicide Squad”) will not have a similar outcome to “Zack Snyder’s Justice League.” The release of the Snyder cut on HBO Max last week brought the project’s toxic fandom back into the conversation. Not only were critics and WarnerMedia executives not in support of the Snyder cut harassed by fans on social media over the last four years, but reviewers who disliked the Snyder Cut were also subject to socia...

Some of Our Brain Cells Get More Active Hours After We Die, Study Finds – Gizmodo

A picture of a human brain taken by a positron emission tomography scanner.Image: Fred TANNEAU / AFP (Getty Images) Even after we die, some of our brain cells can experience one last and large momentary burst of life, new research out Tuesday suggests. The study found evidence that certain “zombie genes” in our brain cells are active more frequently soon after death, which causes some cells to immensely expand for hours. The findings won’t radically change our concepts of life and death, but they may hold some important implications for studying brain tissue taken post-mortem. It’s no secret that our cells can stay alive and function for a while even after we’re clinically dead, before finally flickering out. But though nearly every cell carries the same genetic information as the nex...

California COVID cases fall amid New York, Florida surges – Los Angeles Times

Despite rising coronavirus case rates in other parts of the nation, California is continuing to see its metrics trend downward. At least for now. Even as the state’s numbers remain comparatively positive, officials are urging caution — saying California can ill afford to see its progress reverse so soon after emerging from its own horrific fall and winter surge. Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said the high number of cases elsewhere should be of particular concern because what happens elsewhere in the country will likely carry consequences for California. And with much of the state further unlocking long-shuttered businesses and other activities, the stakes remain high — and the danger of increased transmission remains real. California’s trends Over the...

Plan Your 2022 Disney World Vacation Now – Lifehacker

Photo: Handout (Shutterstock) It has been a year since Disney closed down its theme parks due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was no small thing—as recently as 2016, Disney’s parks made up 40% of its annual income, so the company was understandably anxious to reopen as soon as possible—especially considering the closures came shortly after the 2019 bi-coastal openings of its major new Star Wars attraction, Galaxy’s Edge, which was projected to draw thousands of additional attendees to parks in California and Florida.  In June of 2020 Disney reopened two of its four Florida-based theme parks to tens of thousands of guests, with the last two parks opening not long after. At a time when Florida was seeing record numbers of COVID-19 cases, guests were still willing to risk...

The Daily Beast Tucker Carlson’s Biggest Advertiser Unloads on Fox News Stephen MaturenTrump-boosting pillow salesman Mike Lindell took a swing at Fox News this week, complaining that the conservative network—which essentially plays his MyPillow commercials on a loop—isn’t giving him a platform to peddle his baseless voting machine conspiracies. Fox might be “in” on a conspiracy against MAGA heads, Lindell ultimately suggested. The pillow mogul, who has become the face of a dead-end MAGA coalition still trying to overturn President Joe Biden’s election victory, appeared on far-right pundit Eric Metaxas’ radio show on Monday to discuss his continued efforts to prove the lie that the 2020 election was “stolen” from Donald Trump. COVID-19 vaccines starting to reduce coronavirus transmission in LA County, health director says – Fox News

The rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine is likely beginning to reduce coronavirus transmission in Los Angeles County, said the top public health official there this week, though warned that the county still has a long way to go before herd immunity is achieved.  Daily coronavirus cases in L.A. County have steadily declined since the start of the new year, with the 7-day daily average testing positivity rate now at 1.7%. Meanwhile, as of March 17, some 3.2 million of the 10 million people in the county had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.  Overall, L.A. County has administered the most doses out of all counties in California, data shows. Speaking to the data on Monday, L.A. County public health Director Barbara Ferrer noted that the steep declines in coronavirus infectio...
