New COVID-19 cases tick upward in Los Angeles County; officials warn against spring travel – KABC-TV

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- New COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles County have climbed above 2,200, the highest single-day total in nearly two weeks, interrupting what has been a generally downward trend in new infection numbers. Hospitalization numbers, however, continued to fall, and the current rate of people testing positive for the virus in the county dipped to 2.5%, just above the statewide rate of 2.1%, according to numbers released Thursday. According to state figures, there were 1,341 people hospitalized in the county as of Thursday, with 429 people in intensive care. But the county reported 2,253 new infections, the highest single-day number since Feb. 20, when 2,393 cases were announced. Moonshiners star Lance Waldroup dead at 30 – Fox News

Lance Waldroup, an early star of Discovery's "Moonshiners," has died. He was 30. The TV star, whose born name was Lance Colby Waldroup, died on Feb. 25 at his residence in Robbinsville, North Carolina, according to an obituary. The Discovery TV show also reacted to the news in a statement shared on its official Facebook page. "We are saddened to hear about the loss of Lance Waldroup. An adventurous distiller who was featured alongside his father throughout the early seasons of Moonshiners, Lance was always looking to take his flavorful recipes of ‘shine to new heights," the statement reads. By Jessica Patrick, WRAL multiplatform producer The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday released a warning on thermal imaging systems used to measure body temperature during the pandemic.  The scanners, also referred to as thermal cameras and “fever cameras," are used commonly in the lobbies of workplaces, schools and places of business as a quick, contact-less way to check body temperatures.  However, officials said, the scanners may provide inaccurate readings, and the FDA has issued several warning letters to some companies selling "unapproved, uncleared, and unauthorized" thermal imaging systems, including Certify Global Inc., Kogniz Inc., Opgal Optronic Industries Ltd. and Thermavis. A backlash is growing in Connecticut and Maine following the adoption of age-based eligibility rules for Covid-19 vaccinations that will force some people with serious medical conditions and essential workers to wait longer for their turn. The two states are the only ones in the country to base eligibility for the Covid-19 vaccine mostly on age. In recent weeks, both abandoned previous plans to also give priority to people with certain underlying medical conditions and people working in some occupations.
