REUTERS/Brendan McDermid (Reuters) - U.S. drugmaker Merck & Co Inc said on Saturday the experimental antiviral drug molnupiravir it is developing with Ridgeback Bio showed a quicker reduction in infectious virus in its phase 2a study among participants with early COVID-19. “The secondary objective findings in this study, of a quicker decrease in infectious virus among individuals with early COVID-19 treated with molnupiravir, are promising,” said William Fischer, Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, in a statement from the companies. The antiviral is being currently tested in a Phase 2/3 trial that is set to be compl...

CBS reportedly paid $7M for Prince Harry, Meghan Markle interview – Page Six

CBS reportedly paid more than $7 million for the rights to air Oprah Winfrey’s highly anticipated tell-all interview with Prince Harry and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle. The two-hour interview, set to air at 8 p.m. Sunday, cost the network a pretty penny — likely somewhere between $7 million and $9 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. CBS bought the lucrative rights — the network is charging $325,000 for every 30 seconds of commercial time — from Winfrey’s Harpo Productions, and can also license the interview in international markets. A spokesman for the Sussexes’ told the Journal they were not paid for the interview. In a snippet of the interview teased on “CBS This Morning” Friday, Markle tells Winfrey she feels “liberated” to speak for ...

WWE SmackDown results, recap, reactions (Mar. 5, 2021): Downward trend – Cageside Seats

WWE has a noticeable trend when on the road to WrestleMania. This is typically the time where the lapsed fan would return to see what’s in store for the biggest show. Normally I would say that SmackDown would be THE show I’d recommend watching to get into it. While it’s generally good, I’m starting to see the trend return. When they have a specific goal in mind, logic and common sense tend to get tossed out in favor of getting to the result they want. For example, and I touch on this momentarily, Roman Reigns should know that Jey Uso isn’t going to win a match. So why would he agree to let Jey wrestle someone where he has to win in order to let Roman get time off at Fastlane? Then we also have Reginald all over the SmackDown women’s division. Why? Sasha and Bianca can handle thi...

Hardin, Orange counties open COVID-19 vaccine appointments to anyone – KHOU.com

Two Texas counties, Hardin and Orange, have opened their vaccines not just to phase 1A and 1B, but to anyone. BEAUMONT, Texas — It may seem like a long drive from Houston, but people are willing to make the hour-and-a-half drive to the Beaumont area for a vaccine. There's now a good reason. Two Texas counties, Hardin and Orange, have opened their vaccines not just to phase 1A and 1B, but to anyone. “What we are trying to do is make sure we get as many shots in the arms as possible," said Orange County Judge John Gothia. “We went through 1A and 1B, and then our numbers started dropping off of appointments we could mak...

New York City woman discovers secret apartment hidden behind her bathroom mirror – KABC-TV

NEW YORK CITY -- Just about every New York City resident has a story about finding an apartment, but a woman from Roosevelt Island can probably top them all. Samantha Hartsoe discovered a vacant unit adjacent to the one she was living in. There was an entrance hidden behind her bathroom mirror. A mysterious draft is what tipped her off - she felt cold air blowing on her, and the air was coming from the mirror. Hartsoe made a four-part series on her TikTok about finding the apartment. It is unclear whether building management knew about the space. ALSO READ | Human remains found during construction reburied in NYC Copyright © 2021 WABC-TV. All Rights Reserved.

California theme parks wont profit at 15% capacity – Los Angeles Times

An overhaul of California’s COVID-19 safety regulations announced Friday could allow Disneyland, Universal Studios, Six Flags Magic Mountain and other theme parks to reopen their outdoor rides and attractions as soon as April 1 if they’re in counties where coronavirus transmission is low enough. Another caveat: In most of the state, parks will have to keep attendance at 15% of capacity — a rate so low that industry experts say the parks would certainly not clear a profit. Still, they say, parks are likely to embrace that money-losing mode for a while because they’ll need time to ramp up operations. “Fifteen percent is not sustainable as an operating level,” said John Gerner, a theme park expert and managing director of Leisure Business Advisors. “But as a transition toward fully opening ...
