The others include the “South African variant” and the “Brazilian variant.” But the variant first detected in Britain is making the most news. On Friday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicted it would become the dominant strain in the United States within two months. Mike Ryan, the World H...

Zack Ryder makes surprise Impact debut at Hard to Kill PPV – Cageside Seats

Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder) has been hanging low on the wrestling scene since being released by WWE. He shocked fans when showing up in AEW to help out Cody Rhodes. That run was brief, but perhaps he has found a new home. Cardona made his debut for Impact Wrestling tonight (Jan. 16, 2021) at the Hard to Kill PPV. The setup began when Ace Austin interrupted the program to complain about not being included. He demanded to be inserted into the X-Division Championship match. Scott D’Amore wasn’t having that idea, but he did agree that Austin should be on the PPV. D’Amore had a special opponent in mind. That man is someone who is always ready. Enter Matt Cardona. Cardona took the action to Austin and was on the verge of victory when Madman Fulton hit the ring to save Austin. Ful...

Sylvain Sylvain of the Proto-Punk Band New York Dolls Dies at 69 – The New York Times

The band made a quick splash but within a few years had dissolved, leaving only two albums from its heyday, “New York Dolls” (1973) and the prophetically titled “Too Much Too Soon” (1974, the title borrowed from the autobiography of the actress Diana Barrymore). It produced no radio-friendly hits, but its fame grew after the fact. As Mr. Sylvain put it in his memoir, “There’s No Bones in Ice Cream” (2018, written with Dave Thompson), “We were reborn as an historical precedent, year zero of punk, the Roanoke colonists of the new wave’s new world.” Mr. Murcia died of an overdose while the band was touring England in 1972. Johnny Thunders died in 1991. Jerry Nolan, who replaced Mr. Murcia and played on the albums, died in 1992. Mr. Sylvain continued to perform with his own groups and with Mr...
