Coronavirus viral load in children 16 TIMES smaller than in over-80s – Daily Mail

Primary school-aged children infected with the coronavirus have much smaller viral loads than adults with Covid-19, a study has found.  Viral load — the amount of virus a person harbours in their nose and throat — is believed by some scientists to be linked to transmissibility, although there is debate over these claims.  Data from public health officials in the Netherlands reveals over-80s have a viral load 16 times bigger than than children under the age of 12.  Rapid antigen tests, like ones suggested for use in schools and airports, are also likely to be less accurate for children than adults, due to this smaller load, the researchers say.  Scroll down for video  This graph show the Cp value for coronavirus patients sorted by age. Monday, Jan. 18, coronavirus data by Michigan county: 69 counties now below 10% positivity rate – MLive.com

Sixty-nine counties now have a positivity rate below 10% as a seven-day average on coronavirus diagnostic tests. The good news: That’s the highest number since Nov. 2. The bad news: Counties ideally should be at 5% positivity or less, and there are still 62 counties above that benchmark. Still, the numbers are headed the right direction and it appears at that point that Michigan avoided a post-holiday surge. Did Michigan dodge the winter holiday coronavirus surge? Statewide, Michigan’s seven-day positivity rate is 6.9%. That’s the state’s seven-day average since October. The statewide seven-day average of new cases is now 2,236, down 29% from 3,136 a week ago today. Below is a closer look at the county-level data, based on the metrics used by the Michigan Department of Heath and Human ...

Chicago Health Care Providers Can Begin Modified Next Phase of COVID-19 Vaccinations Monday – NBC Chicago

Health care providers can begin giving coronavirus vaccines to people over age 65 who live or work in Chicago starting Monday in a modified next phase of the city's vaccination plan. Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady announced the shift last week alongside Mayor Lori Lightfoot at a news conference from a new mass vaccination site. Hospitals and outpatient sites enrolled as COVID-19 vaccine providers are instructed to continue to prioritize health care workers, particularly non-hospital based health care workers in Phase 1A, per the city's updated vaccination plan.
