Bay Area hospital wont receive COVID vaccine after teachers given doses before frontliners, elderly – SFGate

On Thursday, teachers and staff at Los Gatos Union School District received a tantalizing offer in their emails: a COVID-19 vaccine ahead of schedule. Our country is in a historic fight against the Coronavirus. Add Changing America to your Facebook or Twitter feed to stay on top of the news. When will kids get the Covid vaccines? Scientists still need to make sure they’re safe. – Vox.com

With the US Covid-19 vaccine supply still limited, and the rollout still slow, immunizing the country’s tens of millions of children under the age of 16 may seem very far off. Many have been left wondering if there is any chance kids will be able to get the shot before the next school year. The finite vaccine doses — authorized by the Food and Drug Administration for people 16 and older for Pfizer/BioNTech, and 18 and older for Moderna — are currently going to the highest-priority groups to most rapidly reduce deaths. And children have been the age group least likely to die from Covid-19: The disease has killed about 190 children in the US, compared with more than 281,000 people age 65 and older. But many kids have caught the virus, with about 2.5 million pediatric Covid-19 cases...

Cats and dogs may need to be vaccinated against Covid-19 to curb the spread of the virus, according to a group of scientists. Coronavirus can infect a wide range of species including cats, dogs, mink and other domesticated species, experts from the University of East Anglia (UEA), Norwich-based research facility the Earlham Institute and University of Minnesota have said. In an editorial for the journal Virulence, they warned that continued evolution of the virus in animals followed by transmission to humans "poses a significant long-term risk to public health".
