Flaming Lips Use of Plastic Bubbles at Concerts Leave Covid-19 Experts Unsure – The New York Times

There are Covid-19 bubbles — small clusters of friends or family who agree to socialize exclusively with each other during the pandemic — and then there are the kinds of bubbles the Flaming Lips used at recent concerts. Santa Clara County joined California in lifting a stay-at-home order Monday, allowing businesses to reopen under previous purple-tier restrictions. Effective immediately, outdoor dining and personal care services can get back to business, and professional, collegiate, adult and youth sports can also resume. “Santa Clara County continues to experience very high rates of COVID-19 transmission,” said County Health Officer Dr. Sara Cody. “Our collective actions to date have saved lives and helped protect our health care system from collapse. I encourage all residents to remain vigilant, wear a mask anytime you leave your home, maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from anyone outside your household and get vaccinated when it is your turn.” State officials said they are starting to...

Coronavirus Live Updates: Hospitalizations, Newly Reported Cases Decline – The Wall Street Journal

Mr. Newsom and state health officials cited improving numbers of new Covid-19 cases and reduced pressure on hospitals that is projected to lessen further over the next month. "We are seeing a flattening of the curve in California, but we are not out of the woods yet," Mr. Newsom said Monday. Local business owners had resisted the closures, and Mr. Newsom has faced pressure to reopen California's economy. Cases in the state remain high despite some of the tightest restrictions in the U.S. Over the weekend, proponents of an effort to recall the Democratic governor said they had gathered mo...
