The Great Gatsby and All Your Favorite Works from 1925 Have Now Entered the Public Domain – Vulture

Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures A new year has arrived, and with it, a new crop of literature, music, films and other media enter into the public domain. “That means that copyright has expired,” explains Center for the Study of the Public Domain director Jennifer Jenkins told NPR. “And all of the works are free for anyone to use, reuse, build upon for anyone — without paying a fee.” In other words, as of today, the seminal works of 1925 are yours to have, to hold and to adapt into an anachronistic musical or zombie-filled prestige horror-drama. Owens would get his wish and face Uso in the night's main event, picking up a win before continuing the assault post-match. As has happened over and over in his rivalry with Reigns, though, the numbers game would come back to bite Owens and he would end yet another edition of SmackDown beaten down and laid out. Los Angeles County Covid-19 Update: Daily New Cases Jump For First Time in Weeks, Up 5,000 Day-Over-Day – Deadline

The number of daily new Covid-19 cases in Los Angeles County had been falling for two weeks. From an all-time high of 21,411 on December 16, new cases had settled at between 13,000 and 15,000. While deaths remained punishingly high, there was some hope that a plateau in cases meant that transmission of the virus had slowed. Friday’s data may smash that hope. The L.A. County Department of Public Health reported 20,414 newly-recorded infections on Friday. That was a massive jump, over 5,000 cases above Thursday’s daily count of 15,129. Friday’s spike may be related to a Spectrum Internet outage last week. County health officials have noted that some of the recent increase in deaths was due to a “backlog associated with the Spectrum outage and holiday reporting delays.” Officials ...
