Disney World requires coronavirus face masks even for vaccine recipients – Fox News

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World? Be prepared to mask up — even if you’ve been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus, according to the company’s newly released safety guidelines.  "Face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine," the safety guidelines read. "Please bring your own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming." The guidelines are based on those from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  "Not enough information is currently available to say if or when CDC will stop recommending that people wear masks and avoid close contact with others to help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19," even after they receive both doses of th...

Pfizer CEO: In the future COVID-19 vaccines wont be effective – Business Insider – Business Insider

At a virtual Davos economic forum, Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said there's a "high likelihood" that COVID-19 vaccines will become ineffective in the future. Bourla said the company is working to ensure it can produce a high efficacy vaccine in 100 days or less, a radically sped up development timeline. Former BARDA director Richard Hatchett also stressed the need for governments to see infectious diseases as an "existential threat to our society." Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. Pregnant Women May Receive Covid Vaccines Safely, W.H.O. Says – The New York Times

The World Health Organization on Friday changed its guidance for pregnant women considering a Covid-19 vaccine, abandoning opposition to immunization for most expectant mothers unless they were at high risk. The change followed an outcry to the W.H.O.’s previous stance, which stated that the organization did “not recommend the vaccination of pregnant women” with the vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna. Several experts had expressed disappointment on Thursday with the W.H.O.’s earlier position. The experts noted that it was inconsistent with guidance on the same issue from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and would confuse pregnant women looking for clear advice. The vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, while they have not been tested in pregnant wome...

Coronavirus vaccine makes a long, cold journey to rural America – CNN

"Our couriers travel many, many miles. Our physicians, our staff travel miles," said Susan Jarvis, president and CEO of Sanford Health of Northern Minnesota. In Bemidji, Minnesota, the last leg of the vaccine's journey to a number of those communities starts when it's unloaded from its ultra-cold storage and packed into coolers like those you might see at a cookout -- except these have crucial data loggers attached. "They're under such scrutiny as far as their storage requirements for freezer temperature, refrigeration temperature and they're only good for five days once we pull them out of that ultra-cold freezer," said Matt Webb, director of pharmacy at Sanford Health. "So that data logger is a piece of equipment that monitors the temperature during transport until they get to a ...

Kelly Dodds stepdaughter seems to call her out for claiming to be black – Page Six

Kelly Dodd’s proclamation that she’s a black woman during the Season 15 “Real Housewives of Orange County” reunion didn’t sit well with most viewers, including her own stepdaughter. Veronica Leventhal, daughter of Dodd’s husband, Rick Leventhal, took to Instagram shortly after the reality star argued that she cannot be racist toward black people because she’s black herself, making several key points that challenge Dodd’s reasoning. She is sure, however, never to mention her stepmother’s name. “I don’t think it’s OK for people who say that they’ve experienced racism and prejudice to then turn around and inflict that same bigotry on other people,” Veronica began in a clip reposted on Twitter. “I don’t think you can experience the privileges of whiteness and ...

‘CODA’ Sparks First Sundance Film Festival Bidding Battle – Deadline

CODA was the right film to start this year’s virtual Sundance Film Festival. Writer-director Siân Heder’s coming-of-age drama about a girl who is the only hearing person in her deaf family premiered last night in the U.S. Dramatic Competition. The pic was well received among buyers, and we hear there have been multiple offers already. We hear the bidding is heading close to Palm Springs territory. That was the Andy Samberg-Cristin Milioti movie that broke the Sundance sales record last year with its $22.5 million deal to Neon and Hulu. Whether it gets there or not, everyone wants this one, and CODA is surely to be the first giant deal of this Sundance. The film (the title’s acronym is for Child of Deaf Adults) centers on Ruby (Emilia Jones), the only hearing person in her ...

George Clooney says he and Amal didn’t want their children to have weird-ass Hollywood names – Yahoo Lifestyle

George Clooney and wife Amal gave their children traditional names to spare them more attention as famous offsprings, he explained in a new interview with AARP. In the virtual conversation, George, 59, who directed and starred in the Netflix sci-fi film The Midnight Sky, spoke warmly of family life, including his habit of writing letters to Amal, 42, and why they named their three-year-old twin children Alexander and Ella. George Clooney, depicted with his wife Amal Clooney, says he steered clear of Hollywood-sounding names for their children. Dr. Ashish Jha breaks down how COVID-19 variants form — and outlines what needs to happen to handle them – Boston.com

Even as health care workers the world over are administering the first wave of COVID-19 vaccines in hopes of bringing an end to the global pandemic, the rise of virus variants are underscoring the need for a faster vaccine rollout, Dr. Ashish Jha says. Mutations have formed new variants originating in the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Brazil. All have been reportedly found in the United States. “Variants arise when infections run wild, and selection pressures lead to dangerous mutations that can then thrive,” Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health, wrote in a Twitter thread Thursday night. “Each of these countries had large outbreaks even before their variants took off,” he added in a subsequent tweet. “So what are the implications if we ever want to end t...

U. study: Pregnant women with severe COVID-19 symptoms at higher risk for complications, death – KSL.com

SALT LAKE CITY — Pregnant women who developed severe symptoms of COVID-19 were at higher risk of pregnancy complications and even death compared to women who experienced no symptoms, or mild or moderate symptoms, according to a new study led by a University of Utah researcher. The good news, according to the study, is that most pregnant women who were studied didn't experience severe or critical effects of COVID-19; however, Dr. Torri Metz, an associate professor and maternal-fetal medicine subspecialist at University of Utah Health, and the study's lead author, said it's still difficult to know why some pregnant women developed severe symptoms while others didn't. "(Adverse effects) do seem to be predominately limited to that severe and critical group but we don't have control over who ...
