What is "perseverance"? A word that can describe beloved "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek and James Gilligan, a contestant on Trebek's final episode.  Gilligan is an assistant professor of English language and literature at San Francisco State University who has tried for 30 years to become a contestant on the iconic show.  "I've been trying since I was a sophomore in college," Gilligan said during a Friday evening interview on "The News with Shepard Smith."  Trebek's final episode airs Friday night. He hosted the show for 37 seasons starting in 1984. He was near the end of his nearly two-year battle with pancreatic cancer when Gilligan taped the episode. Marin officials expect stay-at-home order to be extended indefinitely – Marin Independent Journal

Marin and the Bay Area will continue under a virus stay-at-home order indefinitely, officials said Friday. “We’re waiting for the state to make the official announcement, but we fully expect that to be the case,” Dr. Matt Willis, Marin public health officer, said Friday during an online town hall updating Marin’s health order and vaccine rollout. “Our numbers are going in the wrong direction.” Willis said the new mandate extends the prior stay-at-home order issued Dec. 17 that was to expire Friday. An announcement from the state is expected Saturday. Extension of the order would prolong complete closures of personal care services, including barbershops and nail salons; bars and wineries; and entertainment centers such as amusement parks, movie theaters, card rooms and casinos. ...

Temporary Morgue Erected In L.A. Parking Lot Uses 10 Tractor Trailers To Deal With Overflow Due To Record Covid-19 Deaths – Deadline

California Governor Gavin Newsom’s Office of Emergency Services announced on Thursday that a temporary morgue would be erected in the parking lot adjacent to the L.A. County Coroner’s building to handle the record number of bodies it’s seeing. The facility will include at least five 53-foot trailers supplied by the state and five more supplied by the county, along with an unknown number of “ground refrigerated storage containers.” An AP photo taken Thursday was reminiscent of images from New York last spring. It showed two temporary refrigerator trailers at L.A.’s County-USC Medical Center hospital. Ariel Pink has been dropped by his record label Mexican Summer. The label tweeted that it has “decided to end [its] working relationship” with the artist “moving forward.” Mexican Summer had been set to release Odditties Sodomies Vol. 1, Sit n’ Spin, Odditties Sodomies Vol. 3, and Scared Famous/FF>> on January 29 as the final installments of its “Ariel Archives” series. Pitchfork has contacted Mexican Summer regarding the future of the releases. On January 7, it was reported that Ariel Pink was in attendance at a pro-Trump rally that took place on the White House lawn on January 6, shortly before hundreds of insurrectionists, some of them armed, gained access to the U.S. Capitol building. Legendary game show host Alex Trebek posthumously ended his historic 36-year run as "Jeopardy!" host Friday with his final episode, which aired more than two months after he died of pancreatic cancer at age 80 in November.  Friday's episode was taped on Oct. 29, just 10 days before his death. "Jeopardy!" sent off Trebek with a moving montage tribute that highlighted the charismatic personality many people came to know and love through their television screens over the years.
