Side Effects of Drinking Alcohol Before and After Getting the COVID Vaccine – Eat This, Not That

We all know that keeping our immune systems strong during the COVID-19 pandemic is of the utmost importance. And now that vaccines are, slowly but surely, rolling out, it should still remain a top priority, especially in regards to monitoring and even potentially reducing your alcohol intake if you've been drinking too much. Research has shown that binge drinking—defined by the CDC as 4+ drinks for women and 5+ drinks for men during one occasion—can negatively impact your immune system. For instance, a 2015 study published in the journal Alcohol found that a single bout of binge drinking increases inflammation in just a few hours and inhibits your body's ability to regulate its immune system and effectively fight off infectio...

Comedian who went viral with spoof of The Crown delights fans again with Bridgerton impressions – Daily Mail

The comedian who went viral with his 30-second spoof of The Crown has delighted fans yet again with his hilarious impressions of Bridgerton characters.  Kieran Hodgson, from Yorkshire, imitated the stars of the new Netflix series - which is projected to be streamed by 63 million households in its first month on the streaming website - in a video which has been liked by thousands on Twitter. The racy period drama follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) as she looks for a husband along with other debutantes in London.  In the clip Kieran plays the part of a 'sad and confused' Daphne and pokes fun at her and The Duke of Hastings's many sex scenes in different locations. Fans applauded Kieran's impressions saying they were 'spot on' and thanked him for 'cheering people up in lockdown'.  ...

Warner Bros. deal will reportedly split HBO Max fees with filmmakers – Business Insider – Business Insider

Warner Bros. is working on deals for new payments to filmmakers and their crews, based partly on HBO Max streaming fees, according to multiple reports.  The deals would "increase the odds of performance-based bonuses" for box office sales, Bloomberg reported Saturday.  Legendary Entertainment's "Godzilla vs. Kong," is at the heart of the current negotiations, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I strongly believe the future of cinema will be on the big screen, no matter what any Wall Street dilettante says," Denis Villeneuve, director of "Dune," wrote on Variety in December.  Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. Warner Bros. is agreeing to new payment structures for filmmakers and their crews based in part on HBO Max streaming fees, according to...

Ariel Pink dropped by record label after attending pro-Trump rally – The Independent

The label tweeted that “due to recent events” it has “decided to end [its] working relationship” with the artist. Pink – real name Ariel Marcus Rosenberg – came under fire earlier this week after it was reported that he had been present at a pro-Trump rally on the White House Lawn on Wednesday (6 January), shortly before a mob, some of whom were armed, stormed the US capitol building. Responding to criticism from fans on Twitter, Pink confirmed his attendance at the rally but disputed claims that he was part of the mob that stormed the Capitol. The 42-year-old wrote: “I was in DC to peacefully show my support for the president. I attended the rally on the White House lawn and went back to hotel and took a nap. Case closed.” He added: “I don’t and never have advocated for violent...

At Elite Medical Centers, Even Workers Who Don’t Qualify Are Vaccinated – The New York Times

A 20-something who works on computers. A young researcher who studies cancer. Technicians in basic research labs. These are some of the thousands of people who have been immunized against the coronavirus at hospitals affiliated with Columbia University, New York University, Harvard and Vanderbilt, even as millions of frontline workers and older Americans are waiting their turns. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued recommendations intended to ensure that the nation’s vaccines first reach those at highest risk: health care workers who interact with Covid-19 patients, and residents and staff members at nursing homes, followed by people age 75 and older and certain essential workers. Each state has established its own version of the guidelines, but with the rollout proc...

I Stuck With The Keto Diet And Walking For Weight Loss—And I Successfully Lost 78 Pounds – Womens Health

My name is Lynn S. Mizell (lynns.b_), and I'm 46 years old. I'm from Atlanta, Georgia, and I work as a startup program administrator. After gaining weight post-baby and then yo-yo dieting, I decided to commit to my health and lose weight with the keto diet and walking for weight loss. I first gained weight after the birth of my daughter in 2001. I wasn’t fully committed to losing the baby weight, plus I love good food. So I would lose 10 to 12 pounds, then gain it back by overeating. It was a vicious cycle that I was stuck in for years. In 2003, a coworker introduced me to the Atkins diet. I lost 40 pounds by following it and walking each day. But two years later I had surgery on my foot and was out of work for two months. Unfortunately, I reverted to my old eating habits and wa...

Johnson under fire as UK again faces onslaught of COVID-19 – Associated Press

LONDON (AP) — The crisis facing Britain this winter is depressingly familiar: Stay-at-home orders and empty streets. Hospitals overflowing. A daily toll of many hundreds of coronavirus deaths. The U.K. is the epicenter of Europe’s COVID-19 outbreak once more, and Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Conservative government is facing questions, and anger, as people demand to know how the country has ended up here — again. Many countries are enduring new waves of the virus, but Britain’s is among the worst, and it comes after a horrendous 2020. More than 3 million people in the U.K. have tested positive for the coronavirus and 81,000 have died — 30,000 in just the last 30 days. The economy has shrunk by 8%, more than 800,000 jobs have been lost and hundreds of thousands more furloughed workers ar...

Theres a lot of anger: COVID-19 vaccine rollout leaves people scrambling to find shots – USA TODAY

Diane Kearns sat at her old-school wooden desk, black hair pulled into a ponytail and face devoid of makeup, and prepared to go to war. The Austin, Texas, mother of three was fiercely focused on one thing: finding a COVID-19 vaccine for her 18-year-old son, Dean, whose disabilities include cerebral palsy, seizure disorder and legal blindness.  Kearns picked up her Android phone on Dec. 30 and started punching in numbers. Between pounding coffee and banana nut bread, she called 15 grocery stores that had received vaccines. She called Dean’s doctor. She called pharmacies. No. No. No. They were out of vaccine. They served only first responders. They took only current patients. They accepted only people on waiting lists. And still, she kept calling, anywhere she could think of, at one point s...
