Was I really the right person to get the coveted COVID-19 vaccine? – New York Post

I’m 26, walk 3 miles a day, have no underlying conditions and I’m not an essential worker on the front lines — but I just scored the coveted COVID-19 vaccine. Wondering how that happened? Yeah, so am I. While sitting in the lobby of a Brooklyn clinic Friday, waiting for my coronavirus test appointment, I overheard a man quietly speaking to someone on the other side of a door. “We have one dose left — is there anyone in the building who wants it?”  I jumped and screamed “Me!”  He turned and looked at me, nodded, and led me upstairs to a room with a cloth screen and a folding table. A nurse then talked me through the process of filling out an online registration and a double-sided paper form before offering further details — I would be getting the Mo...

WWE announces Drew McIntyre has tested positive for COVID-19 – Cageside Seats

WWE champion Drew McIntyre was scheduled to renew acquaintances with Randy Orton on Raw tonight (Jan. 11). That won’t be happening, as WWE announced a few minutes ago that McIntyre tested positive for COVID-19 and “has been placed in quarantine.” As shocking as the news itself is the company’s decision to publicly reveal it. Despite several reports of behind-the-scenes outbreaks in 2020, WWE always worked around or provided other explanations for anyone who was sidelined with the coronavirus. For whatever reason or reasons, they’ve changed course in 2021 for one of their biggest stars. In addition to the non-title match with Orton which was announced last Friday, Drew also recently a showdown with Goldberg was set-up for Royal Rumble on Jan. 31. It’s possible McIntyre could be hea...

‘Sex and the City’ Stars to Make More Than $1 Million Per Episode for HBO Max Revival (EXCLUSIVE) – Variety

The stars of the upcoming “Sex and the City” revival at HBO Max are about to have plenty of cash to buy cosmopolitans. According to multiple sources, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis are all set to bank over $1 million per episode for the 10 episode series. All three are set to star in the show as well as serve as executive producers. Reps for the three actresses and HBO Max did not immediately respond to Variety’s request for comment. Given the high-profile nature of the project, the salary for the three stars is hardly surprising. Commanding north of $1 million per episode has become the new upper tier of television star salaries in recent years. A-listers like Nicole Kidman, Jeff Bridges, Sir Patrick Stewart, Reese Witherspoon, and Kerry Washington a...

Scientists Find Link Between Cat Parasite and Brain Cancer in People – Gizmodo

Photo: Kirsty Wigglesworth - WPA Pool (Getty Images) A common parasite spread through undercooked pork and occasionally our cats might have more insidious health effects than previously suspected. New research suggests a link between infection with Toxoplasma gondii and an increased risk of brain cancer. At this point, however, scientists aren’t sure yet if there’s a direct cause-and-effect relationship, and the overall risk of brain cancer is still very low. T. gondii is known for its mind-altering tricks on rodents, one of their natural intermediate hosts. In these animals, the single-celled parasites goad them into becoming reckless in the face of danger, causing them to no longer avoid the smell of cat urine. The rodents—and their parasites—are then more likely to get gobbled up...

Henry Ford study on hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 quietly shut down – Detroit Free Press

Promoted in April as the first large-scale drug study on the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine to protect against COVID-19, the Detroit-based clinical trial has quietly been iced. Henry Ford Health System officials told Bridge Michigan they could not find enough participants to continue studying whether the drug could help beat back the deadly pandemic.  Hydroxychloroquine — an antimalarial drug that has also proven useful in treating rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and other inflammatory diseases — briefly produced some excitement last spring when it was promoted as a potential game-changer by President Trump. But early optimism gave way to broader medical studies, with the nation’s top health agencies eventually determining it was not effective in treating or preventing the spread of the ...
