Moderna needs at least 3,000 adolescent volunteers for its COVID-19 vaccine trial. Theyre struggling to find them. – USA TODAY

Not enough adolescents are signing up for Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine trial, a federal official said this week, potentially delaying vaccine authorization for this age group. Last month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration OK'd use of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for 16- to 17-year-olds, as well as adults. The companies did not have enough data in younger adolescents to apply for use in that age group, and Moderna had only tested its vaccine in adults, so it is only authorized for 18 and up. About four weeks ago, Moderna launched a trial in 12- to 17-year-olds, but apparently, the company is struggling to find enough adolescents volunteers. Moncef Slaoui, the scientific head of Operation Warp Speed, the government's vaccine effort, said Tuesday that while a vaccine trial in adults is accr...

Antibody-rich plasma treatment reduced deaths for COVID-19 patients: Mayo Clinic study – New York Post

Blood plasma transfusions with high concentrations of COVID-19 antibodies reduced deaths among some virus patients, according to a new study conducted by Mayo Clinic researchers, lending credibility to one of the few known treatments for the illness. “Early administration of high-titer convalescent plasma against SARS-CoV-2 to mildly ill infected older adults reduced the progression of Covid-19,” the researchers concluded. The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine Wednesday, accompanied by an editorial explaining how the treatment works, titled, “(A Little) Clarity on Convalescent Plasma for Covid-19.” “I think it behooves the medical community to continue to innovate and test therapies for treatment. Realistically, we’re months away ...

She revealed that throughout her career, fans have harmlessly called her "Anne," not realizing there's only one person in real life that actually calls her that.  "The only person who ever calls me Anne is my mother, and she only does it when she's really mad at me, like really mad," Hathaway, 38, shared. Coronavirus in Oregon: State reports 1,346 new cases, 41 deaths, including 19-year-old – OregonLive

The Oregon Health Authority on Wednesday reported 1,346 new confirmed or presumptive coronavirus cases and 41 more fatalities, including a 19-year-old from Marion County, the youngest Oregonian to have died from COVID-19. More than 30 of the deaths announced Tuesday occurred in 2020. The state did not provide details on the deaths announced Wednesday but said more information would be released later in the day. Oregon’s death tally through Tuesday pushed COVID-19 fatalities in December to 513, surpassing deaths from March, April, May, June, July and August combined. Meanwhile, another 9...

Dolly Parton statue proposed on Tennessee Capitol grounds – Fox News

A statue of Dolly Parton may be erected on the grounds of the Tennessee Capitol. State Rep. John Mark Windle proposed such a statue on the property to recognize all the country icon's contributions to the state. The creation and installation of the statue would be funded by "non-state sources" such as "gifts, grants, and other donations," which will be put into a separate account that will raise money for the development and implementation of the plan, according to Windle's bill. He proposed a similar plan for the upkeep of the statue after it's installation. Furthermore, the artwork will be commissioned and "shall solicit input from the public and other interested parties for purposes of developing the plan, including proposed design concepts for the statue." DOLLY PARTON HAS 'SECRE...
