Yes, Super Gonorrhea Is Real and Its Gonna Get Worse – Gizmodo

An illustration of Neisseria gonorrhoeae bacteria, the cause of gonorrhea.Illustration: Alissa Eckert/CDC Over the weekend, a particularly awful pair of words started trending on social media: super gonorrhea. That’s because the World Health Organization recently warned that the pandemic is helping fuel the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, including the bacteria that cause gonorrhea. Unfortunately, the situation is only likely to get worse. Antibiotic resistance has been a slow-brewing crisis for decades, but the effects are finally becoming hard to ignore. Currently, so-called superbugs are thought to kill around 35,000 Americans annually, as well as 700,000 people globally. One of the more worrying superbug threats today is Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the namesake bacteria that ...

Ariana Grande realized fiance Dalton Gomez was very special while quarantining together in LA – Daily Mail

Ariana Grande just about broke the internet last Sunday when she coyly announced her engagement to boyfriend of nearly a year Dalton Gomez in a post titled 'forever n then some.' Sources say that unlike her other string of highly publicized relationships, the 27-year-old singer realized her 25-year-old fiance was 'very special,' when quarantine fast-tracked their relationship.  Originally meeting the luxury real estate agent when she was looking for a second home in late 2019, the two began dating in January, and spent time together in NYC before Grande followed him back to Los Angeles.  Lasting love: Ariana Grande, 27, realized her now-fiance Dalton Gomez, 25, was 'very special' after quarantining together fast-tracked their relationship, culminating in a proposal la...

Amy Schumer takes jab at Hilaria Baldwin amid Spanish accent controversy – Page Six

Amy Schumer took a jab at Hilaria Baldwin over her dubious Spanish accent amid accusations the Boston-born yoga guru has been faking her ancestry for years. “I get it. I went to Spain a couple times and loved it too,” the comedian, 39, wrote Sunday in a since-deleted Instagram post of a photo of herself in sunglasses and oversize beach hat. The post included a cucumber emoji — a thinly veiled reference to Baldwin, 36, “forgetting” the English word for the vegetable during a “Today” show segment. Schumer and Baldwin traded barbs last week after the comic jokingly posted a photo of a lingerie-clad Baldwin and her newborn, pretending the snap was of her and writing that she “wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday season.” Baldwin responded with a video ...

Manzanero, who was 85, died at a hospital in Mexico City, Mexico's Society for Authors and Composers confirmed to CNN. His songs were interpreted by artists from around the world, including Elvis Presley, Dionne Warwick, Perry Como, Spanish singer Raphael, and fellow Mexican star Luis Miguel. The Latin Recording Academy, which awards the Latin Grammys, expressed its sympathy. New antibody therapy that may prompt immunity to COVID-19 goes into trials | TheHill – The Hill

As the United Kingdom continues to struggle with new cases of COVID-19 amid a more contagious strain of the virus, scientists in London are testing an antibody treatment aimed at protecting against COVID-19.  Researchers at the University College of London Hospital (UCLH) announced they administered the first dosage of their antibody treatment candidate to a patient on Christmas Day. The larger trial, led by UCLH researchers, recruited a total of 10 volunteer patients and administered a dose to one.  Drug manufacturer AstraZeneca — whose potential COVID-19 vaccine is anticipated to be the next vaccine approved for emergency use — also developed a long-active antibody (LAAB), known as AZD7442, which may help the human body’s immune system stimulate protection against COVID-19 for peo...

Small Number of Covid Patients Develop Severe Psychotic Symptoms – The New York Times

Brain scans, spinal fluid analyses and other tests didn’t find any brain infection, said Dr. Gabbay, whose hospital has treated two patients with post-Covid psychosis: a 49-year-old man who heard voices and believed he was the devil and a 34-year-old woman who began carrying a knife, disrobing in front of strangers and putting hand sanitizer in her food. Physically, most of these patients didn’t get very sick from Covid-19, reports indicate. The patients that Dr. Goueli treated experienced no respiratory problems, but they did have subtle neurological symptoms like hand tingling, vertigo, headaches or diminished smell. Then, two weeks to several months later, he said, they “develop this profound psychosis, which is really dangerous and scary to all of the people around them.” Also strikin...

Wonder Woman 1984 End Credits Scene Explained – – /FILM

With every superhero movie, an end credits scene has come to be expected now — whether they act as teases to a sequel, essential building blocks for a wider cinematic universe, or just fun meta-nods. The saving grace (or greatest sin, depending on who you ask) of Patty Jenkins‘ Wonder Woman films is that they exist in their own little corner of the DC Universe, with the 2017 Wonder Woman even eschewing the post-credits scene altogether. But Jenkins reversed course to deliver a Wonder Woman 1984 end credits scene, just not one that fans may have expected. Spoilers for Wonder Woman 1984 follow. Who is Asteria? It’s one of the unanswered questions left dangling by Wonder Woman 1984, after a sequence set in ancient times...
