Utah reports record 4672 new COVID-19 cases, 13 more deaths on New Years Eve – KSL.com

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health reported 4,672 new COVID-19 cases Thursday with 13 more deaths, breaking the record for the number of cases reported in a single day. The health department now estimates there are 50,904 active cases of the disease in Utah. The sudden increase in cases comes after the state has seen a steady decrease in COVID-19 cases over the past few weeks. Back in November, officials feared a Thanksgiving Day spike but were happy to report only a small surge after the holiday. However, with Thursday's numbers, a surge in cases related to Christmas is a possibility. Gov.-elect Spencer Cox wrote on Twitter that while it's possible the sharp increase in cases could be due to low testing last week, it could be the beginning of a holiday-related surge. "Our fea...

Hilaria Baldwin always wanted to be considered Spanish: ex-dance partner – Page Six

Hilaria Baldwin was always a Spanish-wannabe — but she really put her foot in her mouth when she changed her name from Hillary, her old dance partner says. “The whole ‘Hilaria’ thing is hilarious to me,” Alexander Rechits, who competitively danced with the now-embattled yoga-bending celeb from 2006 to 2009, told the New York Times. Rechits, who knew the 36-year-old American wife of actor Alec Baldwin by her given name, Hillary Hayward-Thomas, said it was clear even then that she wanted to portray herself as something she wasn’t. “I understand why she did it,” Rechits said in an interview published Wednesday, adding that he considered Hilaria sweet and talented. “It was always her desire to be considered Spanish,’’ he said. Tom Hanks reveals he shaved his head for a role, and hes not thrilled – CNN

The 64-year-old actor (very briefly) revealed his new look during an appearance Tuesday on "The Graham Norton Show." Hanks conspicuously had on a baseball cap for most of that appearance. At one point, he explained that he was currently in Australia filming Baz Luhrmann's upcoming biopic about Elvis Presley, in which he plays Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker. "Let me show you the horrible haircut I have to have in order to portray Colonel Tom Parker," Hanks said, while doing everything to hide his unfortunate haircut. "Check out this horrible ... Do you see that? Look at that thing?" Then, for about a second, Hanks ducked down and brought his hairless scalp into view. If you blinked, you might have missed it.
