Cedar pollen count explodes to near-record level – KXAN.com

In this COVID-19 pandemic era, every cough, sneeze or sore throat can cause anxiety. But, if you are feeling less than stellar right now, it may very well be because of today’s cedar count, measured at 29,745 grains per cubic meter of air–a very high concentration. This number is the third-highest known count since consistent daily records began about 25 years ago. The pollen was measured Tuesday morning by the Austin area’s only Allergy & Asthma clinic that is an American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) Certified Pollen Counting Station. Logan Paul Sued Over Suicide Forest Hanging Man Video – TMZ

Exclusive Logan Paul's reckless filming of a dead body hanging in a Japanese forest torpedoed a movie he was signed on to star in, and it cost the production company millions ... this according to a new lawsuit. Planeless Pictures just filed suit against the YouTuber, claiming they'd inked a deal with him in 2016 to make a movie -- starring Logan as a fictionalized version of himself -- called 'Airplane Mode,' which was supposed to be a spoof on modern-day trend-setters, like the Paul brothers and other social media folks. According to the docs, obtained by TMZ, Planeless claims they were all set to have Logan star in, write and help produce the flick, and he'd agr...

Moderna to Offer Its Covid-19 Vaccine to Workers, Contractors, Board – The Wall Street Journal

Moderna Inc. said Tuesday it will offer its new Covid-19 vaccine to its own employees, contractors and board members in a move the company said would provide an additional layer of protection to workers involved in making and delivering the vaccine. The Cambridge, Mass., company, which has about 1,200 employees, said the small quantities of vaccine needed for the program are separate from the millions of doses Moderna has committed to the U.S. government. Moderna has said it expects to provide about 20 million doses for use in the U.S. by the end of this month, and a total of about 200 million by the middle of 2021. The federal government has purchased the doses and is overseeing their distribution. The company’s new policy would appear to all...

18-year-old Tinley Park woman with no prior health conditions dies of COVID-19 – WGN TV Chicago

TINLEY PARK, Ill. — The mother of an 18-year-old woman who died of COVID-19 is speaking out, urging anyone who believes the virus is a hoax to think again. Sarah Simental had abided by the guidelines, social distanced and had done everything right, yet still contracted the virus. Less than two weeks later, it took her life. Simental had just turned 18 last month, and she was a senior at Lincoln-Way East High School in Frankfort. Her family describes Sarah as a free spirit with a big heart, and someone whose life centered on her family, her friends, and her best buddy Bailey. Less than two weeks ago, Simental developed a headache, before developing a sore throat and some congestion. Following a positive COVID-19 test, Simental’s condition quickly worsened. ...

First case of highly infectious coronavirus variant detected in Colorado – The Washington Post

The Colorado case involves a man in his 20s, who is in isolation in Elbert County, about 50 miles southeast of Denver, and has no travel history, according to a tweet from the office of Gov. Jared Polis (D). “The individual has no close contacts identified so far, but public health officials are working to identify other potential cases and contacts through thorough contact tracing interviews,” the statement said. A federal scientist familiar with the investigation said the man’s lack of known travel — in contrast with most confirmed cases outside the United Kingdom — indicates this is probably not an isolated case. “We can expect that it will be detected elsewhere,” said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the broader context of the announcement. The Cente...

Lost in 2020: Epic Shakespeare, and the Theater That Planned It – The New York Times

I’ve written several versions of this story. First it was supposed to be an account of a small theater company’s ambitious stage project, then a story about that interrupted project and the company’s plan to regroup because of the pandemic. Now it’s an elegy for a small theater that the coronavirus shut down. On a bright but chilly Saturday afternoon in February, I hopped on a train to Alexandria, Va., just outside of Washington. I was visiting Brave Spirits Theater, which was presenting the first part of a bold endeavor: staging eight of Shakespeare’s history plays (the two tetralogies, from “Richard II” to “Richard III”) in repertory, over the course of 18 months, culminating in a marathon performance of all eight works. I was there to see the first two plays in the series, beginning w...
