Indian-American doctor identifies possible Covid treatment – The Tribune India

Washington, November 21 An Indian-American scientist has discovered a potential strategy to prevent life-threatening inflammation, lung damage and organ failure in patients diagnosed with Covid-19. Published online in the journal Cell, the research coming from the lab of Dr Thirumala-Devi Kanneganti, an Indian-born researcher working at St Jude Children's Research Hospital in Tennessee, identified the drugs after discovering that the hyper-inflammatory immune response associated with Covid-19 leads to tissue damage and multi-organ failure in mice by triggering inflammatory cell death pathways. The researchers detailed how the inflammatory cell death signalling pathway worked, which led to potential therapies to disrupt the proc...

Bobs Burgers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin to co-write Deadpool 3 – The A.V. Club

Photo: Visual China Group via Getty Images/Visual China Group via Getty Images Two writers are going from The Belchers With The Beef to the Merc With The Mouth this week, as Variety reports that Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Wendy Molyneux, who’ve spent most of the last decade penning episodes of Bob’s Burgers and their upcoming animated sitcom The Great North, have been tapped to write Deadpool 3. The news comes as the Ryan Reynolds-starring superhero movie makes the transition to the world of Disney and “official” Marvel movies, which hopefully won’t cut down on the number of X-Men who say “fuck,” or the volume of random people getting shot in the head. The two previous films in the Deadpool series were written (with contributions from Reynolds) by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick; the ...

WWE SmackDown results, recap, reactions (Nov. 20, 2020): Secondary champion – Cageside Seats

Roman just called Drew his favorite shit. Legend. Roman’s absolutely killing, no, murdering… no - slaughtering every promo he cuts on television. And it feels like every single one is better than the next. Roman told Adam Pearce to step aside so that he could sit at the head of the contract signing table. What a nice touch. That is extreme attention to detail I am here for. Drew said that he hopes Reigns underestimates him, because he should now prepare for war. Then Roman led the sermon. Roman gave the brutal truth, that Drew is nothing but a secondary champion, a prop, a stand-in. Roman said he’s THE champion, the face of WWE, your tribal chief, and the head of the table. One day, years from now, McIntyre will finally get a chance to be the man, and when he does, he’s gonna ...

The worlds now scrambling for dry ice. Its just one headache in getting coronavirus vaccines where they need to go – CNN

The "cold chain" is just one of the challenges in distributing vaccines worldwide. There are plenty of others: decisions about priority populations and databases to keep track of who's received what vaccine, where and when. Additionally, different vaccines may have more or less efficacy with different population groups; and governments will need PR campaigns to persuade people that vaccines are safe. But the logistics of transporting and storing vaccines -- getting them from the factory gate to the patient's arm -- are critical. And as most vaccines are likely to require two doses, the whole chain needs must be repeated within weeks. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine needs to be kept at around -70 degrees Celsius (-94 degrees Fahrenheit) while it's transported. That's 50 degrees Celsius colder...

Sia Engages in Fiery Twitter Debate With Disability Activists Over Autism-Themed Film – Variety

Sia has not let accusations that she was “ableist” in the making of her upcoming movie, “Music,” go by without comment, and the pop star-turned-filmmaker spent the early hours of Friday tangling with disability activists who took issue with her on several points. Among the grievances she addressed, sometimes with palpable anger: her use of the term “special abilities” instead of “disabled” for people with autism; casting a non-autistic actor in the lead role of her directorial debut; and whether a person who is not autistic is exercising undue privilege in making a film centered on the subject. Although “Music” isn’t due out till February, a trailer for the film released on Thursday stirred up dissent on Twitter, which Sia was quick to respond to in sometimes surprisingly blunt ...

“Wipeout” contestant dies after completing obstacle course – CBS News

A contestant on "Wipeout" has died after completing the game show's obstacle course, authorities and sources close to the production said Friday. The man, who was in his 30s, was declared dead at a hospital shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, Los Angeles County coroner's spokeswoman Sarah Ardalani said. The cause of death has not been released, and the man's name is being withheld until relatives can be notified. The reality competition show, in which contestants navigate an extreme obstacle course featuring giant balls and pitfalls that often result in spectacular crashes, ran on ABC from 2008 until 2014 and is being rebooted by TBS and production company Endemol Shine North America. Two people close to the production said the man had completed the course on the show's set in Santa ...

WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: Champions come face-to-face ahead of Survivor Series – CBSSports.com

With WWE Survivor Series just two days away, the go-home edition of SmackDown was largely focused on ticking off the final boxes ahead of the pay-per-view. SmackDown filled the remaining spots on the men's and women's Survivor Series teams and a few visitors made their way from Raw to confront their opponents ahead of Sunday's event. The big pre-show headlines focused on WWE champion Drew McIntyre returning to SmackDown to share the ring with universal champ Roman Reigns and sign their match contract. But Raw tag champs The New Day also appeared on the show, tagging with upcoming opponents The Street Profits and Raw women's champion Asuka showed up to trade words with SmackDown titleholder Sasha Banks. CBS Sports was with you all night, bringing you recaps and highli...
