Researchers at Tel Aviv University have demonstrated that the CRISPR genome editing system is very effective in treating metastatic cancers, a significant step on the way to finding a cure for cancer. In a paper published this week, the researchers demonstrated a novel lipid nanoparticle-based delivery system that specifically targets cancer cells—and co-author Prof. Dan Peer said it’s the first study in the world to prove that the CRISPR/Cas9 can be used to treat cancer effectively in a living animal. “It must be emphasized that this is not chemotherapy. Saa Fomba recorded last Monday’s stunt at Austin’s Pennybacker Bridge, posting it to his YouTube channel on Friday after several days in the hospital. The footage shows the daredevil as he hatches the dangerous stunt. “Hopefully this video will motivate you to chase after your dreams,” Fomba said to the camera as he prepared to jump into the Colorado river. “I don’t see no fun in living a normal life.” A woman later records Fomba scaling up an arch of the bridge. Funding shortfalls and disruptions to treatment in sub-Saharan Africa as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic risk tens of thousands more lives being lost to malaria, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned in its annual report on the mosquito-borne disease on Monday. The UN’s health agency said it was concerned that even moderate disruptions in access to treatment could lead to a “considerable loss of life”. A 10-percent disruption in access to effective anti-malarial treatment in sub-Saharan Africa could lead to 19,000 additional deaths, the report found. LONDON (AP) — Dave Prowse, the British weightlifter-turned-actor who was the body, though not the voice, of arch-villain Darth Vader in the original "Star Wars" trilogy, has died. He was 85. Prowse died Saturday after a short illness, his agent Thomas Bowington said Sunday. Born in Bristol, southwest England, in 1935, Prowse was a three-time British weightlifting champion and represented England in weightlifting at the 1962 Commonwealth Games before breaking into movies with roles that emphasized his commanding size, including Frankenstein's monster in a pair of Hammer Studios horror films. LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The surge in Los Angeles County coronavirus cases continues, with more than 5,000 new cases announced Sunday. The county announced 5,014 new cases and 16 additional deaths. There are 2,049 hospitalized with COVID-19 in the county. As the numbers continue to rise, the county's new safer-at-home order takes effect Monday, putting new limits on gatherings, activities and business occupancy. Officials urged people to stay home for the Thanksgiving holiday but hospitals are bracing for a new strain on their capacity after aviation authorities say an estimated 1 million flew through the nation's airports on Saturday alone.
