Navajo Nation faces devastating loss from Covid-19 pandemic – CNN

The Navajo had 2,304.41 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people at its peak in May, compared to the New York state rate of 1,806 cases per 100,000, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Since the pandemic began up until November 22, the Navajo Nation has had 15,039 cases out of its population of 173,667 from the 2010 census, which means this hard-hit population has over 8,659 cases per 100,000 people. A recent surge in positive cases forced the Navajo Nation to go on lockdown until December 6. School is fully online, and most businesses are closed as the Navajo Nation works to reduce the spread of the virus. Essential businesses must close by 3 p.m. each day. The brains of healthy adults recovered faster from a mild vascular challenge and performed better on complex tests if the participants consumed cocoa flavanols beforehand, researchers report in the journal Scientific Reports. In the study, 14 of 18 participants saw these improvements after ingesting the flavanols. New data shows 28% rise in child COVID-19 cases in last two weeks – New York Post

New data shows an uptick in COVID-19 cases among children as health experts warn the public not to travel for the holidays. The American Academy of Pediatrics reported Monday there’s been 144,145 new cases of coronavirus in children from Nov. 12 to 19. Nearly 1.2 million children have tested positive for the virus as of Nov. 19, the AAP says. The surge in cases comes after several states across the U.S. have imposed tougher restrictions to curb the spread. In New York, Gov. Cuomo ordered bars and restaurants to close at 10 p.m., and encouraged small gatherings. The city is also setting up an emergency field hospital on Staten Island to treat COVID patients.
