Developers roll out new COVID-19 test that also detects influenza and RSV – KSL.com

SALT LAKE CITY – A new kind of COVID-19 test that can also detect influenza and RSV could ease some of the burden of overcrowding some hospitals are facing. Analysts at ARUP Laboratories say a big influx of influenza patients could cripple the already struggling hospital system. Doctor Adam Barker, ARUP COVID-19 Rapid Response Lab Director, says we haven't seen that many confirmed cases of influenza so far, mostly because the precautions people are taking to prevent the spread o...

Grammys 2021: The Weeknd and Bob Dylan Surprisingly Absent From Nominations – Pitchfork

During today’s 2021 Grammy nominations, there were two artists who were surprisingly missing from contention: Bob Dylan nor the Weeknd. The Weeknd’s smash hit “Blinding Lights” was eligible for nomination, as was his chart-topping album After Hours. Bob Dylan’s remarkable Rough and Rowdy Ways was also released during the eligibility period (September 1, 2019—August 31, 2020), with its first single “Murder Most Foul” reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock Digital Song Sales chart. Since the Grammy nominations require that an artist submit their work for consideration each year, it’s unclear whether either artist did so. For example, Frank Ocean, Drake, Cardi B, and Macklemore have all chosen to withhold music from Grammy consideration in recent years. When asked about the Weeknd’s shutout in a...

Heres whats coming to (and going from) Netflix in December 2020 – The A.V. Club

L to R: Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Selena: The Series, Mank, and Ryan Murphy’s The Prom (Netflix)Graphic: The A.V. Club Just like quite a few of you, Netflix began decking its many halls the second that Halloween was over. Let’s be real: Some of you are already well into your holiday binge fest or, at minimum, on your second rewatch of Dash & Lily and that’s fine. We certainly won’t begrudge anyone of some much-needed holiday cheer (especially in the form of the delightful Netflix musical, Jingle Jangle). This December, Netflix is giving the gift of some long-awaited films and TV series. And yes, that includes a few residual holiday specials via Sugar Rush and Great British Bake Off. The Snubs and Surprises of the Grammy Award Nominations – The New York Times

CARAMANICA The truth is that there is a whole level of success for a musician that has little to do with radio play, streaming success, album sales or touring scale. It is about being seen as the sort of musician that other musicians respect. (No idea if this is lucrative!) Black Pumas and Collier fit in here. And D Smoke might seem like a total outlier, but in this context, he’s not: His brother is SiR, a singer who’s signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, known as the home of Kendrick Lamar. In a(nother) year with no Kendrick album, D Smoke is a familiar alternative, and a reminder of the sorts of music — hip-hop included — that Grammy voters tend to favor: earnest, technique-driven, either shopworn or fine-tuned depending on your lens. That’s made manifest in the best rap album category (D ...
